Justin Fields is in search of the bounce back game he needs after the turnover mess against Indiana. Fields had only thrown three interceptions in his short Ohio State career. Three interceptions in a single game was unbelievable.
Fields was looking like the Heisman frontrunner, but that status has taken a bit of a fall. Whether Fields wins a Heisman or not, he is a top draft prospect and even falling a pick or two equates to losing some money. This weekend is a time to perform at a top tier level once again.
Fields does have some help on the ground now that Master Teague and Trey Sermon are starting to get it going. Teague is clearly the bell cow, but he did tweak his ankle at the end of last week. I would expect Sermon to get more touches in order to not overwork Teague.
The defensive line and linebackers have been solid. Indiana was stuffed on nearly every run last week. As for the secondary… Wade was overpowered, Banks disappeared, Hooker was lethargic and Williamson’s only saving grace would have been standing in the Indiana huddle because he was extremely lost. Josh Proctor’s hit on special teams might gain him even more time on the field with the defense, which could shake things up.
The entire group will look to improve and the Fighting Illini’s week offense will help get a defensive rhythm.
