2nd Half
The Buckeyes deferred and received the ball after half. It looked like a great opportunity to score again but a Fields throw to the back of the endzone was tipped immediately after leaving his hand and floated into the arms of a defender in the endzone.
On the ensuing drive, Lawrence and the Tigers tried to fight back with a Cornell Powell 10-yard TD reception. (35-21)
OSU responded with a 56-yard bomb from Fields to Olave, taking the top off the Tigers secondary. (42-21)
The Ohio State defensive pressure began to get even more intense. Tommy Togiai forced a Lawrence fumble that was recovered by Justin Hilliard. The Buckeyes weren’t able to capitalize though and punted.
The next offensive possession lasted only two plays. The fastest wide receiver on Ohio State and Jameson Williams blew by the corner in coverage and Fields found him for a 45-yard TD. (49-21)
Clemson scored a consolation touchdown from Lawrence to Powell for 26-yards, finishing the scoring at 49-28.
The last half of the fourth quarter was just the Buckeyes running the ball to drain the clock and Clemson loading the box, as well as the silver bullets on the other side harassing Lawrence and even forcing an interception on Lawrence’s last throw as a Tiger. Lathan Ranson and Marcus Williamson were excellent in swatting the ball and Sevyn Banks was alert to come up with the grab.
That’s how it all wrapped up with Ohio State as 2021 Sugar Bowl champs with a 49-28 win.
