Ohio Bobcats

MAC East

Coach: Tim Albin

Last year’s record: 3-9

Overview:

Ohio struggled last season with a 3-9 record, this was due to losing all non-conference games and losing in offensive shootouts in conference play. This year could be different with a more experienced Sophomore QB Kurtis Rourke. Rourke had growing pains in his freshman season, expect him to improve a ton this season. The RB group lost their number one option in De’Montre Tuggle but gain redshirt FR Sieh Bangura who has huge expectations this season. Rourke gained a new number one option in James Bostic, a transfer from Vanderbilt despite losing some top options from last season. The OL has four starters returning to help protect their young QB and RB. The Defense has even bigger expectations compared to the offense with nine returners on the defensive side of the ball. With the addition of transfers from power five teams and JUCO, Ohio looks primed on defense as they look to hold teams below 30 points a contest.

Dom’s Outlook:

Ohio is an interesting team this season from my perspective, I expect to see improvement from last season but not enough to capture a winning record. Week two I will be seeing them live when they take the long trip to Happy Valley to take on Penn State, giving me a better look on this young team with much to prove. I like them in a few games this season against Buffalo, Ball State, and Akron to be competitive and possible win. The defense should help keep them in games, it is up to their young Offense to decide them.

Prediction:

Ohio will have growing pains but should see some improvement compared to last season as they only won three games all in conference play. I believe this team can beat FAU and Fordham; FAU should be a battle at home, but it can be won. Penn State and Iowa State are mountains that can be too tall to climb, while each conference game could be a tossup. At the absolute best I can see Ohio sneaking by to win seven games while six games are a little more realistic. At the very worst I see them winning just four games this season. Whatever their record will be, Ohio will take big steps forward compared to last season.
