Tonight was NXT In Your House II.  The nights ended with Karrion Kross in need of a new challenger and NXT in need of a new GM.  Let’s breakdown it all down as Regal appears to be gone and Keith Lee appears to be on his way back.

The night ends with William Regal quitting as GM

Take – The announce team dropped hints all night long that Regal was losing control.  Whomever takes over from here can by anyone from a legend, to a returning Diva such as Paige?  We’ve seen it all before, what happens this time?

Karion Kross retains the NXT Heavyweight Championship

Take – Kross defended against 4 top challengers who never stopped bringing the action.  While a 5-man match can be overbooked at times, this one was done properly and were very few “slow rest spots”.  Anytime you have a match that Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano are in, you know it’s going to be good.

I’ve been tough on Pete Dunne in recent months because of his tendency to do nothing but push fingers back, but tonight he brought several elements to his game and was the MVP of this match. The only one to come out of not looking strong is Kyle O’Reilly who was put to sleep.

Who is next for Kross?  A rematch with Fin Balor has already been done and the O’Reilly versus Adam Cole angle seems to be still going on.  What about Keith Lee returning out of nowhere to challenge him for the belt he lost to Kross last year and never got a rematch?

Bronson Reed & MSK defeat Legado del Fantasma by pinfall.

Take – It’s clear that Santos Escobar was a strange fit for Cruiserweight Championship for most of 2020 and the early part of 2021.  Ever since he lost the belt in mid-April, he has been thrust into feuds with champions Karion Kross and Bronson Reed, being embarrassed thoroughly in both of them.

Where does Escobar go from here is anyone’s guess.  I personally feel that he is due to come up to the Main Roster in August during the WWE draft to fill a role left behind by Andrade.  Time will tell, but having him job out to the NXT Champions too much longer will continue to crush any momentum he had.

Xia Li makes quick work out of Mercedes Martinez

Take – Not sure when Mercedes Martinez asked to leave the main roster and come back to NXT this is what she had in mind. She managed to save some face after losing the match by attacking Li post-match with a chair.  That was actually great but what happened afterwards was just plain creepy.

With both Li and Boa laid out from brutal chair shots, Martinez got in the face of Mei Ying.  It was an incredibly tense moment that made the hair on the back of your neck stand up in anticipation of what would happen next.

The moment became violent quickly as Ying was able to fend off Martinez with ease as she/he applied a nerve hold to the throat of Martinez to put her out within seconds.

This entire gimmick is working well.  I love the mystery behind it and the intense moments like tonight that it created.  I’m excited to see how far this invincibility aura goes.

LA Knight captures the Million Dollar Belt in a ladder match over Cameron Grimes

Cameron grime took some amazing bumps in this match.  He jumped off the set, he took a large fall onto the ladders as well.  Grimes got himself over big time despite the loss.

As for LA Knight, hopefully this means we get to see the Eli Drake that did so well in Impact Wrestling before this.

Up until now, LA Knight was a hokey 1980’s gimmick that wasn’t working.  This win should now point him in the right direction for the first time since arriving in NXT.

As for Cameron Grimes, this will also help solidify him as much more than a goofy punchline.  He proved he can deliver and also take a beating.  A great story told on both sides of this one as the match was on point!

Raquel Gonzalez retains the NXT Women’s Championship

Take – As said in the preview, it was a VERY long shot at best that Ember Moon had coming into tis one.  While the outcome was never in doubt, I have to take my off of to Moon for keeping it interesting and entertaining the entire time. The reign of Gonzalez will go on for many months. No one can touch her right now.
