The Avon Eagles hosted the North Ridgeville Rangers in a tough, competitive, and close battle on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles started the game with a full court press that led to steals and a few easy buckets. The Rangers, led by junior guard Grace Kingery, answered back to stop an early run from the Eagles but still trailed 11-7 after one.

The second quarter saw both squads heat up from beyond the arc. Rangers junior guard Brooke Lime hit a few threes that helped the Rangers take a small lead, but Eagles guard Brooke Laub answered to tie the game at 25 as the game went to halftime.

The second half was much like the first. Kingery dominated on both sides of the ball and the Rangers saw an early lead. Eagles junior forward Molly Drenik answered with a few tough buckets in the paint, but the Rangers entered the fourth with the lead.

The fourth quarter saw both teams exchanging the lead with the score being tied coming down to the wire. The Eagles held the ball with 40 seconds to go with the score tied at 45, but Grace Kingery intercepted a pass, and the Rangers took over. The Rangers drew up an inbound play with 4 seconds left and got a good look at the basket but missed the shot. 45-45 entering overtime.

The Eagles won the overtime tip, but both teams failed to score until halfway through the quarter. Grace Kingery took over for the Rangers and scored 6 overtime points to help her team win the game 58-50. “Resilience” is what Rangers Coach Amy Esser had to say about today’s game.

The leading scorers for the Rangers were Grace Kingery with 29 and Brooke Lime with 13. The leading scorers for the Eagles were Brooke Laub with 15 and Molly Drenik with 12.
