North Ridgeville tops Avon Lake, 63-55

North Ridgeville, Ohio – Thanks to an all-around effort featuring four players in double figures, the North Ridgeville Rangers knocked off previously undefeated Avon Lake, 63-55.

The Rangers started out hot, jumping out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter, thanks to buckets from Griffin Turay, Jackson Stacy, and Jake Boynar. Stacy and Turay combined 14 of the Rangers’ 19 points in the period.

North Ridgeville also capitalized thanks to an aggressive defense, forcing multiple Avon Lake turnovers in the first half. The Rangers would push their lead to as big as 11, and led 30-21 at the half.

Avon Lake rallied in the third quarter, going on a 11-4 run to cut their deficit to 34-32 with 3:24 left in the third. The efforts of Matthew Steuwe had a huge part, as he scored eight points in the quarter.

Coming out of the timeout, Jake Boynar drilled a triple to push the Ranger lead to 37-32. The Rangers would maintain a 45-39 lead at the end of three.

The Shoremen cut the lead to two once again, but North Ridgeville would respond. Jake Boynar had seven points in the fourth quarter including a huge triple to push the lead to 52-45. He had 16 points on the evening to lead the Rangers. Thanks to a Jackson Stacy triple late in the game, the Rangers padded their lead to 55-45, and hung on from there.

North Ridgeville (9-3 overall, 5-2 SWC) hosts Keystone on Tuesday, January 17th. In addition to the efforts of Boynar, the Rangers got 15 points from junior guard Griffin Turay, 13 from sophomore guard Jackson Stacy, and 11 from junior guard Colin Jones.

Avon Lake (10-1 overall, 6-1 SWC) hosts Bay Saturday evening. They were led by senior guard Matthew Steuwe’s 18 points. Junior guard Peyton Lerch added 12 points, and fellow classmate Derek McCrum had 11.
