The North Ridgeville Rangers played host to the Anthony Wayne Generals in their 2025 playoff opener. The Rangers, led by quarterback Cole Miller’s 4 total touchdowns, cruised to a 42-7 victory. The win puts North Ridgeville in the regional semifinals for the first time in school history.
The Rangers came out aggressive with an onside kick to open the game. It worked out, as the ball bounced off a Generals player and into the arms of Tyler Aliff. That ultimately did not result in points, but their second drive did when Cole Miller found Dylan DeShazo for a 16-yard touchdown.
The Generals responded with a touchdown pass from Porter Brungard to Cameron Miller to tie things up. Cole Miller then connected with Mason Allison on a 59-yard deep ball to put the Rangers at the 1-yard line. That set up a touchdown run by Miller to make it 14-7.
Brungard then fired back with a 41-yard pass to Elijah Donawa to put the Generals deep in Rangers territory. However, Brungard was picked off by Carter Clark a few plays later. After a missed field goal by the Rangers, Clark intercepted Brungard for the second drive in a row.
Cole Miller pulled off some magic just before halftime. On 3rd and 17, his 28 yard scramble that included an incredible spin move got the Rangers down to the goal line. Miller finished the drive off with his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night. The Rangers took a 21-7 lead into halftime.
North Ridgeville opened the second half with a long, methodical drive. It was capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Matthew Flesher. Their defense then came through with a 4th down stop on the Generals. Cole Miller continued his big game with another rushing touchdown to put the Rangers up 35-7. Miller racked 289 total yards and 4 total scores on the night.
The Rangers picked off Porter Brungard for a 3rd time late in the 3rd quarter. This time it was senior linebacker Frank Brady with the takeaway. North Ridgeville extended their lead to 42-7 on a 9-yard run by Luke Bartell. In the final minutes, Brian Strippy added yet another interception for the North Ridgeville defense.
