The North Ridgeville Rangers won their home opener on Thursday Night in front of a packed house against the visiting and red hot Amherst Comets.  The stifling defense of the Rangers held the Comets to just 30 points in a 49-30 victory for the Lady Rangers.

They held Kristen Kelley to zero made field goals in the first half, and 16 points total with 10 of them coming during a hot stretch in the third quarter.  The Rangers led most of the game by double digits and looked solid doing it.

Amherst was helped by the returning presence of Ava Darmos with 4 points, while Bradyn Silvasy and Jayla Cruz had 3 each.  Kayla Ferancy chipped in with 4.

The Rangers were led by Grace Kingery with 25, Kat Crevda with 14, Brooke Lime with 8 and Maddie Eldridge with 2.

The big night from Kingery has become commonplace for all the right reasons, as she continues to lead and help this Ranger team find their stride.  The 14 from Crevda was refreshing and a sign of what we saw from her last year.  Crevda, has all the making of a difference maker if she can continue to bring it like she did against the Comets.

Coach Amy Esser of North Ridgeville discusses Kat’s big night, “We’ve needed that from her all year, that energy for her to come out and play like that, she’s got more in her.  She needs to have that confidence and I think tonight was just the tip of the iceberg with her. “

The Rangers built a 31-15 first half lead, before Amherst went a mini run in the 3rd to cut it down a bit, before North Ridgeville pulled away again for the 49-30 win.

I spoke with coach Esser post-game about her teams ability to stave off the run of Amherst, and put it away, “We just told them to keep punching, sometimes we let teams come back in and take breaks but we just kept putting the pedal to the metal.  Amherst had a really good third quarter and we had a tough time scoring. In the fourth the crowd gave us a lot of energy to build off and put them away. “
