North Ridgeville road the hot hand of Brooke Lime who finished with 14 points to lead them past Lakewood in the battle of the Rangers. Lime’s 14 was good enough to lead the Rangers in scoring along with Grace Kingery’s 14 as well in a 49-31 victory. It was the defense of North Ridgeville that really sealed the deal however as they only let up 11 second half points with a terrific effort.
Daylan Baker had 6 points but multiple assists and steals tonight as well. Baker continues to sniff out the ball on defense and interject herself in many a play. On offense, her ability to drive and kick helped free up several shooters. One of which was Laney Rumancik who knocked down a couple of three pointers on her way to a 7-point night.
Brynnley Kerr and Maddie Eldridge had 2 each while Kat Crevda had 4 to round out the scoring for the Rangers of North Ridgeville. I do want to make mention as well that Payton Palcisko showed almost no effects of rust from her brief time off. Palcisko was once again tough on the defensive end and made things rough for Lakewood.
For Lakewood, I was very impressed with the toughness and hustle of Sydney Hampton tonight. She was everywhere and just kept coming no matter the score. Hampton finished with 5 hard earned points. Avon Carol and Samantha Hudak also had 5 each for Lakewood. Molly Henrikson, Delaney Garcia and Jacquie Hudak each had 4 for Lakewood as well.
After trailing early 4-0, North Ridgeville got hot and starting scoring at will as they went on a 17-8 run to finish the quarter on top 17-12. Once Ridgeville settled down after a hectic start, they controlled the rest of the game.
The North Ridgeville defense really clamped down in the second quarter, as they held Lakewood to just 2 points in the first six minutes of the quarter. They used a good chunk of that to go on an 8-0 run at one point with big 3’s by Laney Rumancik and Grace Kingery.
Up 31-20 heading into the third quarter with the game somewhat in question, Brooke Lime decided to end all doubt. On consecutive drives, it was Daylan Baker driving the lane causing Lakewood to collapse as she tossed a laser no look pass to Brooke Lime who found the bottom of the net from beyond the arc twice in a row.
Lime was on fire tonight and couldn’t be stopped. This combined with only allowing Lakewood one made basket in the first seven minutes of the half, put the game completely out of reach as North Ridgeville would go on to win 49-31.
I don’t normally do this, but I’m going to hand out a few game balls from this game.
Brooke Lime – If she continues to shoot well, along with Baker, Kingery and Rumancik, this offense may be hitting their stride at the perfect time as we head into the crucial part of the season. I always consider November and December intensified practice for the barn burners and high drama games to come in the New Year.
Grace Kingery – Not for the 14 points she scored, but for the defense she played numerous times tonight to create tough looks for Lakewood. She used her length and incredible footwork to stay in place and keep a hand in the ball handlers face.
Daylan Baker – Not all stats indicate the heart and hustle of a player, she brought a lot of intensity tonight.
Maddie Eldrige – She saw some time early tonight, and the 10th grader made the most of it.
Laney Rumancik – She continues to come off that injury and appears to have re discovered her shooting form.
Sydney Hampton – She was tough as nails out there and also showed a ton of heart and hustle.
PSA – WE ARE VERY MUCH IN NEED OF SPONSORS FOR 2022 IN ORDER TO KEEP PRODUCING CONTENT.
