North Olmsted Running Back Sammy Capps Wins Player of the Week 6

Sammy Capps has overcome so much in his career as a North Olmsted Eagle and has just kept moving forward.  It is in that spirit along with an amazing amount of fan votes that has earned Sammy Capps our Week 6 Jenny’s Old Fashioned Popcorn Player of the Week award.

This was the largest vote in company history as over 9,000 people clicked on the ballot to cast a vote. Sammy was the overwhelming fan vote winner, and our editors agreed this story was too good not to be shared.

Capps rushed for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns in the second half alone in his teams 41-20 victory over Westlake this past weekend.  It was homecoming night in North Olmsted, and Sammy saved his best career performance for the packed house!

The emotional pull for Capps this week was so strong, it helped overcome other top contenders for the award such as Berea-Midpark QB Luke Devins who had 7 touchdowns and Columbia tailback Owen Menge who had 6.

The Capps touchdowns came at a crucial point in the game after the Westlake Demons came back to make it 27-20 late into the third quarter.  It was then that the Capps tear tore over the game, as Sammy began to dominate. He became a one-man wrecking crew to help the Eagles pull away.

All of this after Capps has battled back from two knee surgeries.  One of which kept him out all but two games last season.

I spoke to his head coach Tim Brediger who had this to say, “I’m very proud of how he has developed to this point in the season.  He has overcome so much adversity to get to where he is, and has been a bright spot in all 3 phases of the game thus far.  He has emerged as one of our team leaders on and off the field.”

The Eagles have now won 4 straight games to approve their overall record to 5-1.  They will look to stay hot this weekend as they travel to Bay Village who is coming off of a stinging loss to rival Rocky River.
