North Olmsted hosted Great Lakes Conference opponent Bay Village in what was expected to be a tightly contested matchup between two teams who have struggled to find their bearings this year. The Eagles still had their struggles due to a rough start to the game. Offense didn’t come easy thanks to the unexpected trap from the Rockets throughout the game.
Both teams struggled to get the ball in the basket to start the game, both defenses were good on rotations and help defense smothering anyone who dared to enter the paint. Bay Village scored first but thanks to Eggie Cordero the Eagles finally found their offensive stride. The Eagles obtained a eight to five lead in the end of the first quarter.
Bay Village came out of the gates of the second quarter playing tough defense as they pulled within a single point of the Eagles. Miles Ciulla found his shot in the second quarter ending with seven points at the half thanks to a last minute three. The half ended in a North Olmsted lead of a score of 17 to 14.
North Olmsted started with the ball first, this didn’t result in points as their first two possessions ended in turnovers due to Carson Gergye playing tough denial defense. Gergye and the Rockets continued to pressure the Eagles as they took the lead in the middle of the third quarter.
This didn’t last for long as a Naoki Sato’s three-point shot soared into the basket from distance to regain the lead for the Eagles. The Rockets refused to give up that easy, After Ciulla extended the Eagles lead, the Rockets got back into their tough denial defense and tied the ball game up once again in the third quarter.
North Olmsted held a lead going into the fourth quarter with hopes to preserve it. The Rockets hung tight to the Eagles but struggled to prevent Ciulla from getting to the basketball. With an eight-point lead North Olmsted’s ball movement prevented Bay Village from generating any offensive chances. The Eagles were able to milk out the clock after extending their lead and walking away with a well-deserved home win.
