Planning a funeral can be tough, emotional, and expensive. The last thing you need to worry about is getting ripped off for thousands of dollars by the Funeral Home Owner or director. Sadly, for customers and mourners of Kacirek Funeral Home in North Olmsted, that is exactly what happened.
Former owner Mark Kacirek was sentenced to 18 months in prison today after being convicted of stealing money from several customers. The results of the investigation that took place revealed Kacirek had not refunded 14 accounts that were supposed to be insured in the event the company went out of business as it did in 2009. He instead used $7,500 of that money on operating expenses.
You may recall his arrest in 2019 confirmed charges of theft; aggravated theft and receiving stolen property. Truly a sad story and a black mark on North Olmsted business owners. He will now have the next 18 months to think about what he did.
Kacirek received more than $4,000 from a 104-year-old woman named Maguerita Riske in pre-paid funeral expenses after he had already lost his license and would have no way of legally performing the services.
