The North Olmsted Eagles entered Fairview Warriors territory tonight looking for their second straight win. They started off hot with running back Michael Passafiume punching in a 6-yard touchdown run, putting the Eagles up by seven early. The North Olmsted defense came up with a big takeaway as Brady Haug picked off Fairview quarterback Burke Lowry, giving the Eagles the ball at the Warrior 24-yard line. North Olmsted Quarterback Tommy Horsfall quickly found his receiver in Collin Willard for a 31-yard score a few plays later.
North Olmsted remained hot to start the second quarter as Passafiume struck again, rumbling for a 15-yard touchdown run. A few possessions later, Brady Haug intercepted Lowry for a second time. However, the Eagles failed to capitalize on the turnover. On North Olmsted’s next offensive possession, running back Matthew Chalkwater took the handoff to the left for a 54-yard touchdown. After a three and out for Fairview, the Eagles regained possession. Horsfall found his receiver Brayden Pavlus down the sideline for a 34-yard completion, but as Pavlus approached the goal line, he got stripped and fumbled the ball. Fairview recovered. On Fairview’s very first offensive play after the turnover, Eagles cornerback Lawrence Stanley picked off Burke Lowry and took it in for a pick-six. North Olmsted led Fairview 35-0 at halftime.
With North Olmsted up by 35, the second half went relatively quick due to the running clock. Each team only had the ball once or twice through the third quarter but on one of those possessions, Fairview put themselves on the board with a touchdown and eliminated the running clock momentarily. The Eagles wasted no time responding as Tommy Horsfall connected with Lawrence Stanley over the middle for a 12-yard score. The third quarter ended with North Olmsted on top 42-7.
The fourth quarter was a battle of the defenses as there were multiple three and outs by both offenses. With just a few minutes remaining on the clock, the Warriors ran the ball in for a touchdown and once again stopped the running clock. The game ended a few drives later giving North Olmsted the win, 42-14.
With their win tonight, North Olmsted improves to 2-6 on the season. They will host Westlake next week to take on the 5-3 Demons. With the loss, Fairview falls to 1-7. They will welcome the 2-6 Elyria Catholic Panthers next week.
