North Olmsted High School Varsity Boys Basketball coach Kyle Johnson will be leaving the program to take on the Head Coaching job at Bay High School, pending board approval on May 20th. Johnson will be taking over for former Girls Basketball Head Coach Lauren Heldt who left earlier this spring.
Johnson was 15-31 with the Eagles, but he did much more than is record would show. He provided a positive culture with the program and was an incredible coach to those young men. As someone who covered the North Olmsted Boys program and the Bay Girls program a lot this past year, I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do as I know Bay is getting a gem.
Good luck to Coach Johnson on his new stop and good luck to Coach Hedlt on her next stop as well.
I reached out to Brett Koch about the departure of Johnson, “Coach Johnson is a phenomenal coach and an even better person. Whatever his next venture is, I am sure he will be successful. “
I also reached out to Bay AD Matt Spellman, who had this to share,
“Through the interview process, Kyle was able to clearly articulate his passion for coaching girls, and his ability to build relationships through his coaching philosophy was evident. He loves basketball but, more importantly, loves coaching. In looking over the qualities and characteristics that the girls were looking for in the next head coach, Coach Johnson possesses many of these characteristics.
He is fully committed to the Girls’ Basketball program and helping them feel valued and connected to their sport and teammates. He is determined to challenge girls to be their best while recognizing their efforts. He emphasized that he is here to work together with the boys’ basketball coaching staff and the administration to create a unified front across both programs and the school. We look forward to Coach Johnson leading the girls basketball program.”
