VIDEO: North Canton Hoover pulls away to defeat Hathaway Brown, 9-4

North Canton, Ohio – Thanks to a strong defensive effort, and five third-period goals, the Hoover Vikings defeated Hathaway Brown, 9-4, in Thursday night action.

The two teams played incredible defense in the first quarter. Hoover set the tone for the evening with a huge stop 2 1/2 minutes into the game, preventing the Blazers from taking the lead. The Vikings would capitalize, as Stella Somers found the back of the net seconds later.

Hathaway Brown responded less than 30 seconds later, as Caroline Morgan knotted the score with a goal of her own. Junior Emily Morgan gave the Blazers the lead, 2-1, scoring with 1:34 left in the quarter.

The score remained that way until 5:39 left in the second quarter, as senior Ava Streb knotted the game for the Vikings. She would add another goal with 3:54 remaining, increasing the lead to 3-2.

The Hoover offense got off and running in the third quarter. Stella Somers scored her second goal 41 seconds in, pushing the lead to 4-2. Freshman Kim Otte and senior Madison Vardavas also found the back of the net, increasing the lead to 6-2.

Emily Morgan added her second goal for the Blazers at the halfway point, cutting the lead to 6-3. Otte responded with her second goal with 1:28 left in the third, pushing the lead to 7-3.

Ava Streb added her third goal of the game with 10:52 left, and Cam Cooney scored with 7:36 left, as the lead swelled to 9-3. Emily Morgan scored her third goal for the Blazers with 1:43 left for the final margin.

The Hoover defense put on an impressive performance, and one player that stood out was senior goalkeeper Layla Tully. She had 12 saves on the evening, and making several impressive ones in the third quarter.

Hoover moves to 9-1. They play against Brunswick and Shaker Heights on Saturday, April 27th.

Hathaway Brown, now 7-3, travels to Gilmour Academy on Tuesday, April 30th.
