Normandy Falls To Rocky River 42-12 In Route

Braedon Spies only had to throw the ball 7 times tonight, but that is all it took to help pile up 229 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-12 route over Normandy. Spies compiled those numbers and only played the first two quarters of the game.

Spies was loaded with talent around him, as star running back Tommy Bebie put up 138 yards on 7 carries with a touchdown. His brother Owen Bebie caught two touchdown passes from Spies, one for 60 yards and the other for 35 yards.

The other big threat tonight for Spies was wideout Charlie Hudson who had his best game of the season. Hudson caught two touchdown passes, one from 10 yards out and the second from 50.

For Normandy, they fought hard all game and showed a lot of grit, but simply couldn’t get anything going as they fell to 0-5 while River improved to 3-2. Their quarterback Eddie Starks looked sharp at times and fought to the end never giving up.

Starks finished with 90 yards and a touchdown on the ground, carrying the ball 15 times in a constant RPO offense. Starks threw the ball for 71 yards and a touchdown as well on 8 of 14 passing, with an interception and 5 sacks.

The Pirates converted Invader turnovers and bad punts into 21 quick points in the first quarter to build a convincing lead. It started on a 60-yard bomb from Spies to Bebie. About 3 minutes later, following an interception, it was the Pirates striking again.

This time a nice redzone possession capped off by a 10-yard Spies to Hudson strike. Finally, they finished the scoring in the quarter with a Spies to Bebie connection once again, this time from 35 yards.

In the second quarter it was more of the same as Spies looked brilliant as he masterfully led the Pirates offense. Hudson and Bebie would pick up their second touchdown catch each, followed by a 17-yard touchdown run from Tommy Bebie to build a 35-0 lead.

The Pirate scoring wasn’t over with yet however, as punt returner and slot receiver Christian Dean got into the act. Late in the second quarter with only 1:42 left on the clock, and up 35-0, Dean took a punt 60 yards to the house and ended all doubt by halftime.

Rocky River will look to stay hot next week as they host Tallmadge while Normandy will try for their first win against Parma at Byers Field.
