OLMSTED FALLS, OH – With the game still somewhat in question as the second half began, Lauren Noernberg used an explosive 16 minutes of second half play to lead the Bulldogs to a 49-27 victory over Avon Lake.  Noernberg scored 13 of her team high 14 points in the second half, including 9 of them from beyond the arc.

She was one of three double digits scorers for the Bulldogs tonight as Paige Kohler had 11 and Danielle Cameron had 12.  Stop me if you have heard me say this one before, Kohler could have had about 20 plus, but she is such an incredible passer she continued to drive and kick to open shooters.

The Bulldogs lost three starters last year and while we all knew Sara Glover and Noernberg would step in, Cameron has been an incredible surprise and a big reason for the Bulldogs impressive start to the season.  Her incredible defense goes hand in hand with the energy and dominance Mia Kalich and Sara Glover also bring.

Sophia Wilson led the Shoregals with 7 points while Courtney Borland had 6 and Marisa Summerfield had 4.  The young Shoregals team continue to look to find their way as they graduated 7 Seniors, and 4 starters from a year ago.

Olmsted Falls is known for hot starts and they had another one to start the night as they jumped up to a 7-2 lead on the Avon Lake Shoregals, less than 2 minutes into the game. A Danielle Cameron three ball was sandwiched between buckets from Sara Glover and Mia Kalich to spot them the lead.  An Izzie Polinko Shoregal three ball would cut into it at 7-5 moments later. From there the Bulldogs would go on a thunderous 9-2 run to finish the quarter up 16-7.

The Bulldog first quarter was highlighted by 6 points and multiple blocks by Mia Kalich.  Also, the attack the rim mentality led to 6 foul shots in which they sunk 5.  Most impressively, 4 of the Bulldogs 5 starters scored as they continued to spread the ball around and find the open shooters.

A Paige Kohler three ball in the opening moments of the second quarter earned the Bulldogs their first double digit lead of the game at 19-7.  Kohler would go on to have a massive second quarter, scoring all 9 of the Bulldogs points.  Not only that, but she made a couple of excellent passes that should have let to buckets but the shots didn’t drop.  The Shoregals had points  from Sophia Wilson, Courtney Borland, Marisa Summerfield and Claire Springer to stay in the game, down 25-15 at the break.

Up 10 to start the second half, the Bulldogs looked for another hot start to a half to put the game away, and they got exactly that as the Bulldogs scored the first 13 points of the half to increase the lead to 38-15.  It came on the strength of two long balls from Lauren Noernberg and 7 points from Danielle Cameron in the run.  Most of them second chance points as they continued to attack the boards and get multiple opportunities to score.

The Bulldogs would increase the lead to 42-22 after three quarters as Lauren Noernberg would end up scoring 8 in the quarter.  When the three balls stopped dropping late in the quarter, they began fast breaking again when the chances came.  From there, they salted things away in the fourth to capture the 49-27 win.
