The Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism, (NEOPAT), the not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting patriotism and honoring our local military families, is partnering with Rocky River High School, and the Rocky River Women’s Club for a year-long community service initiative in honor of Rocky River alumnus Lance Corporal Daniel R. Scherry, USMC. Scherry, a 2005 graduate of Rocky River High School and member of the football team, lost his life while on duty in Iraq in April of 2007.
Known as Danny Scherry’s Salute to Service, the initiative will be launched at the Rocky River – Elyria Catholic High School football game being held at Rocky River High School the evening of September 16, 2022. A community food drive will begin at 6:00 pm, pre-game ceremonies at 6:30 pm with kick-off at 7 :00 pm. The Scherry family will be recognized at the end of the first quarter of play.
In developing this initiative, Danny’s mom, Marianne Scherry, expressed that Danny’s legacy would be best served in three ways:
- Honor and remember all military members of the Rocky River community that are no longer with us.

Inspire the Rocky River community to help and serve others.

Promote patriotism and civic pride in the Rocky River community.
The game marks the launch of the Danny Scherry’s Salute to Service initiative. This is a year-long partnership between The Rocky River Assistance Program sponsored by the Rocky River Women’s Club, NEOPAT, the Rocky River Schools, Athletic Teams, Rocky River students, the high school Key Club, the Rocky River PTA, and other community groups to promote community service and to honor Rocky River alumnus, Lance Corporal Daniel R. Scherry, USMC. The Rocky River Assistance program supports more than 1,000 families in need in the Rocky River Community.
