The Boston Celtics overcame a double-digit disadvantage in the second quarter to lead a tthe half 56-54. Then, they did it again, overcoming a large double-digit lead by Golden State to start the fourth quarter and claim the 120-108 victory. This was perhaps one of the craziest game ones in NBA Finals history.
Let’s take a quick look at the stats that jump out of the building from this one. These are the types of stats you would have to “see to believe”.
One of the best players in the NBA, and the Celtics clear cut leader, Jayson Tatum was held to just 12 points on 3 of 17 shooting and the Celtics still won!
Al Horford and Jaylen Brown combined to score 50 points in an excellent game one performance. Their 50 went perfectly with 18 from Marcus Smart.
Steph Curry hit 6 pointers as part of NBA Finals record, 21-point first quarter. He would go on to only make one more three pointer the rest of the game and was held to 13 points over the next three quarters to finish with 34 on the night.
Draymond Green was held to 4 points on 2 of 12 shooting while going 0 – 4 from long distance.
Klay Thompson only took 14 shots all game, he would go on to finish with 15 points.
Derrick White came off the bench for Boston to score 21 points, including 15 from beyond the arc.
Boston out assisted Golden State 33-24
After allowing 92 points in the first three quarters, the Celtics held the Warriors to only 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Golden State 38 points in the third quarter seemed to put the game away, until Boston outscored them 40-13 in a dominant and stunning Fourth Quarter.
