Granger Twp., OH: Junior running back Casey Myser played like a man possessed Thursday night, racking up 318 yards and four touchdowns as the Highland Hornets (8-0) took down Revere (5-3) 41-0. On the game’s third play, Myser took a handoff 61 yards for a touchdown and the Hornets never looked back. The Highland defense played their part as well, allowing the Minutemen to cross midfield just once.
First Half
The Hornets would take a little longer to score their second touchdown. On their third possession, Highland would find the end zone on the eighth play when quarterback Dylan Borla found a wide-open Nick Dobkowski for a 19-yard score, extending the lead to 14-0 early in the second.
With 1:10 remaining in the first half, Highland began their drive near midfield. On 2nd & 2, Myser burst around the left side for a 47-yard touchdown, his second of the half that pushed the Hornets’ lead to 20-0 at the halftime break.
Second Half
Myser showed his dominant first half was not a fluke as he took his first carry of the third quarter 80 yards for yet another touchdown, pushing the lead to 27-0. Revere would pick up a first down on their next drive but nothing more, forcing them to punt the ball back with seven minutes left in the third.
Starting on their own 36, Highland put together a six-play, 64-yard drive that was capped off by a one yard plunge from Casey Myser, his fourth score of the game and pushing the Hornet lead to 34-0. As the lead surpassed 30, a running clock was put in to effect late in the third.
With the backups in and less than 30 seconds to play, junior Dylan Lazar took a handoff eight yards up the middle to put Highland up 41-0, which would be the final score.
Keys to the Game
Junior running back Casey Myser turned in a legendary performance, carrying the ball 20 times for 318 yards (15.9 YPC) and four touchdowns. He pushed his season total to 29 which gives him the single season school record with two games remaining in the regular season.
Not to be outdone, the Highland defense stood strong from the opening kick until the final whistle. Only once did the Minutemen offense cross midfield, and that was on the final play of the first half. The Hornets’ defensive front dominated the line of scrimmage all game long.
Next Week
The Hornets remain perfect on the season and will look to extend their undefeated streak next Friday when they travel to Cuyahoga Falls (2-5).
Revere will look to get back into the win column next week when they travel to Copley to take on the Indians (3-4).
