Moxley Wins The Gold At Thrilling AEW Revolution

AEW had a pretty high price tag tonight for their Revolution PPV. It was $49.99 and worth every single penny. This show was amazing and AEW continues to hit homeruns every time they go to PPV. It looked good coming in, and didn’t disappoint! Let’s get right to it!

The PPV part of the evening kicked off with Jake Haggar winning big over Dustin Rhodes. The former Jack Swaggar handled the former Goldust pretty easily. Dustin fought hard but it was Hager dominating early and often. A perfect opening match of the night. Not a blowout, but booked the way it should have been to keep Hager over.

Sammy Guevara and Darby Allen were up next and had perhaps the best singles match in AEW history. These two cruiserweights tore down the house. It reminded me of the old WCW days when their cruiserweights would steal the show! This was no different as both men looked amazing.

Each of which nailed every move they tried starting from the open seconds of the contest. It was high spot after high spot and the crowd never had an excuse to sit down or catch their breath. Not a lot of people have heard of either guy, but they will after tonight! Go back and find a way to watch this one again!

It was Darby Allen getting the win, but both men are more than over after this match. AEW continues to prove that size and age simply don’t matter. I would look for big things from both guys in the future.

Technically the record book will say this one only went 5 minutes, but when you watch the match it was actually 20 plus. The first 15 incredible minutes went on before the official bell was rung.

Kenny Omega & Hangman Adam Page retained their championships over The Young Bucks in perhaps the greatest Tag Team Match in Pro Wrestling History. I have never seen so many near finishes, drama and athleticism in one tag match in my life. I couldn’t help but “mark out” as a fan time and time again in this one.

One very scary spot appeared to be Kenny Omega getting dropped squarely on his head. There was another great spot with Matt Jackson and Page doing a rolling slam / suplex over and over again on the ramp. Followed by a spike piledrive to page. In the end it was Page hitting big spot after bigger spot to help the champs retain.

This Bucks “loss” will help them more then 90% of wins they have ever had. Perhaps the biggest match in all four men’s career. This one had it all and never had a single dry moment in the 30 plus minutes it went on. When you can get a sportswriter up from his comfy seat to scream at the TV, you’re doing something right!

This one also kept the building tension between Page and Omega going on as well. I still forsee a split down the road as it seems evident. This one reminded me of The Fiend in WWE for a bit, because it seemed no matter what Page and Omega did, they couldn’t stop the Bucks. Eventually they found their “Jackhammer”.

The Nyla Rose and Kris Statlander match never stood a chance. To follow this would have been impossible for nearly anyone. Mix in the fact that the women’s Division in AEW is terrible, and it didn’t do them any favors as Rose retained in the popcorn match tonight.

One of the things AEW does right is utilizing the “Big Fight Feel” and they did it again tonight by having live musical accompaniment play Cody to the ring for his match with MJF. This was not a matt classic by any stretch but once again delivered big.

MJF relied on dirty tactics and did a good job making Cody chase him on a bad toe. A toe made worse by losing his boot and MJF biting it like it was a Slim Jim. It had the spectacle that is Wardlow ringside as he caught a diving Brandi at one point. This caused Cody to be distracted and he ended up kicking his coach Arn Anderson by mistake.

Again, the drama was there, the action was there and this one delivered. Having Cody go for multiple Cross Rhodes finishers at the end was smart. It showed his hate for MFJ and it cost him. MJF caught him with a loaded ring punch, and put Cody out.

A great finish that will allow this red-hot feud to go on. It also helps MJF further get over as Cody didn’t need to win this one. At 24:20, it went on the perfect amount of time and never dragged.

PAC ran through Orange Cassidy like a hot knife through butter.

I will say however that OC kept it close in certain moments and made a glorified squash match rather entertaining. For whatever reason however, JR picked this match to call out a few fans for giving him a hard time on twitter. He also used a few poorly timed one liners.

The main event between Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley once again did a superb job finding that “Big Fight Feel” and playing to it from the opening seconds. Moxley entered the arena from the actual street through the tunnel. Jericho had a choir sing him to the ring. Both entrances very motivating and got everyone ready.

The match itself was far too similar to WWE however. I can’t go into too much detail, but it honestly felt like a match you’d see on RAW with a little bit of blood mixed in. Now for the first time in AEW history it will be Jon Moxely and not Jericho holding the strap. Interesting to see how the company will do with a face champion.

All in all, on a scale of five stars I would have to give it all five stars. I would have loved to see Jericho retain but with an upcoming Fozzy Tour, you had to see this one coming.

Also, with Goldberg and Lesnar holing WWE gold, I think they wanted young blood holding their title. Still a great show and easily the best PPV of 2019 two months in. best show of AEW history as well.
