Shortly after a hot start the Middies were unable to capitalize on their first possession with the ball. Rocky River played great defense to stop the momentum. Both the Middies and Pirates traded possessions but were unable to score in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Middies started to gain momentum. They were breaking the Pirates defense with multiple first downs. Senior quarterback Marc Reed was executing over and over again, play after play. They had possession of the ball for almost 9 minutes in the second quarter.
The biggest play in that quarter was a pass from Marc Reed to running back Hunter Anderson who gained 34 yards off the pass with three minutes left in the second quarter. That play ultimately led to the Midview’s first touchdown from wide receiver Mason Kucera with 1:54 left in the half.
Despite the lack of possession in the second quarter for the Pirates they were able to pick up multiple first downs in the second quarter with under two minutes to go. They also had multiple chances to even the score but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Midview went into the half up 7-0
To start the 3rd quarter the Middies stopped the Pirates from scoring , and then it was flashbacks of the second quarter. Multiple first downs, and this time James Ansel led the way with 35 yards and picked up two first downs in the quarter as he was bulldozing through the Pirates players.
James put the Middies first and goal on the 2 yard line. On the very next play it was Marc Reed with the 2 yard touchdown with 4:31 left in the third giving the Middies a 14-0 lead.
The Pirates had some quick answer back plays with multiple first downs from Mack Massad and Ryan Ricketti. The Pirates were resilient and trying to put a string of good plays together. A huge play from Julian Patti to Stan Heuler on a 47 yard pass that brought the Pirates 1 yard away from getting on the board with 55 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.
When it seemed like the Pirates were going to get a touchdown being only 1 yard away, the Middies had other ideas. They were locked in defensively and locked in mentally. Not only did they stop the Pirates from scoring, they forced a fumble on third and goal. The Middies ended the 3rd with a 14-0 lead.
As the fourth quarter came around, the Middies knew all they had to do was finish the job and they would leave victorious. They came out hot with lots of energy in the 4th. Leading the way was Marc Reed, Mason Kucera, and James Ansel.
Multiple 1st down possession from these 3 players and Midview found themselves back into the end zone for the third time.
Quarterback Marc Reed went on to score his second touchdown of the night with 3:17 left in the 4th putting the Middies up 21-0.
. Player of the game is Marc Reed with two touchdowns on 7/12 passing with a combined total of 105 yards. The Middies were clicking on all angles tonight.
