The Middies are expected to be a force in the SWC this year and they showed it with a convincing 50-33 victory over Amherst at home Saturday.  The Lady Middies were led by Mary Meng with 24 and Olivia DiFranco with 14.  The combination of those two extremely talented players will be a giant challenge for anyone to handle this season.

Each of them scored in every quarter and continue to play off of each other perfectly.  This is a dangerous dynamic duo that has the SWC on high alert. With an experienced head coach like Brittany McNamara, the sky is the limit for this duo and team.  I’m excited to see what lies ahead for this group of Middies.

Perhaps the most impressive feat of the 50 – 33 victory for Midview was the fact that they only needed one three pointer.  They attacked the lane and key, and that is where they made it count today.  When a team can put up 50, and only need 3 points from the outside, that speaks volumes to their commitment to passing the ball, attacking the rim and playing disciplined basketball. A sign of good coaching and great execution.

DiFranco and Meng were not alone however as Riley Willard had a nice game with 5 points while Erica Baldoza had 5.  Grace Seymour had 3 more to finish the scoring for the Middies.  The Comets were led by Bradyn Silvasy who had 15, all of which coming from beyond the arc.  Jocelyn George and Kristen Kelley had 4 each.

The Middies jumped out to a quick lead to start the game. A couple of three balls by Natalie Pleban and Bradyn Silvasy would keep it close for the Comets however at 8-6. A few moments after a timeout, Silvasy hit another three for the Comets and suddenly they led 9-8 in exciting first few opening minutes. It was a wild first quarter that would end with the Comets on top 12-10.

Four minutes into the second quarter there had been very little movement as both teams had only scored 3 more each, moving the score to 15-13. It was then that the Middies made their move with 6 straight.  An Olivia DiFranco runner was sandwiched between two Meng buckets to give the Middie’s a 19-15 lead. It was all part of a tremendous second quarter by Midview that saw them outscore Amherst 13-6 to take a 23-18 lead into the break.

Meng had 9 in the quarter while DiFranco and Riley Willard had 2 each. Bradyn Silvasy had 4 long balls in the first 16 minutes to account for 12 of her teams 18 points at the break.

The third quarter was all Lady Middies as they doubled up the Comets 10-5 to take a commanding 33-23 lead into the fourth.  All 10 points were scored by DiFranco and Meng as they continued to take it to the hole.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as 5 different Middies scored in the quarter to wrap up the win.

  1. Amherst is a young team . They look a little lost out there . The new coach is trying to figure it out hopefully he will figure it out with that group . At this rate I have them winning 5/6 games . Hope I’m wrong . Good luck

  2. Midview is a solid team . That Meng girl is the real deal . They seemed to be well coached . I look for them to be right at the top of the SWC . Amherst has a lot of work to do . Young girls they look very unorganized out there . Not sure if it’s coaching or not. . To early to tell . The Rositano is a good coach I’m sure he figures it out .
