Midview Falls to North Ridgeville 50-31 in Key SWC Battle

Grafton- The North Ridgeville Rangers (5-6) earned the victory over the Midview Middies (4-7) 50-31 and get back to an even record in SWC play.

The 1st half did not go as planned for both teams especially, in the 2nd quarter. North Ridgeville only scored four points in the quarter, while Midview only scored two. The Middies couldn’t get anything going from the three-point line just making one triple in the 1st half and four for the game. Three of those three-pointers coming from Junior Hunter Crum who led the scoring for Midview with nine points. Her teammate Junior Riley Frei followed suit and had seven points on the night.

The 2nd half was a completely different story for North Ridgeville. The Rangers fired up 18 points in the 3rd quarter. The same number of points they had in the first half. I had a chance to speak with Head Coach of the North Ridgeville Rangers Amy Esser about what the talk in the locker room was at halftime to have an exploding 3rd quarter offensively. “I think getting more in the passing lanes. I thought defensively we could have been a lot more aggressive in the 1st half and our rotations could have been a little more crisper. I thought defensively the 3rd quarter we looked a lot better.” Esser said.

I also asked Coach Esser about getting a big victory in conference action. “I just thought overall it was a good team win. We had multiple kids in the scoring column, dominated the rebounds, lot of 2nd chance points, we never gave up and that’s all you can ask for from your team.” Esser said

Leading the scoring for North Ridgeville and being very physical in the rebounding department was Senior CC Bouman with 11 points. Esser continued by saying “She can be a double-double kid on any given night just with her work ethic and being in the right spots. We expect that performance from her every single time and once she started to get the ball in the basket and get some confidence things started to go well for her.” Esser said

Rising star and Freshman Adrianna Spyres had nine points on the night. I asked Coach Esser what is means to have young talent on her team and what she thought of Spyres performance. “I thought she did well. It was nice to get our younger guards in who don’t have a lot of experience, get a lot of experience tonight.” Esser said.

The North Ridgeville Rangers will return home for a quick two-game homestand. This Saturday January 11th they will take on another conference foe in the Berea-Midpark Titans. Following with a non-conference matchup and a battle of the Rangers on January 13th against the Lakewood Rangers.

The Midview Middies will go on the road for a short two-game road trip where they will face off against a pair of Eagles in back-to-back games. They will first take on the Avon Eagles January 11th and then continue their road trip next week January 13th taking on the North Olmsted Eagles in a non-conference matchup.
