Midview Defeats North Olmsted at Coach Schmotzer Classic

NORTH OLMSTED, OH – The Midview Middie’s traveled to North Olmsted today where they defeated the Eagles 64-38.  The game and 4 team tournament is dedicated to longtime Eagle Coach Tim Schmotzer who coached there from 1994-2010.  He was a good man and my English teacher and gym teacher there twice while I attended in the 90’s.

Midview took advantage of a massive third quarter run and never looked back.  The Middie’s were led by Luke Jockel with 24 points while Xavier Young had 11 as Caleb Kennedy and Xavier Padilla each had 7.  Kellen Desimone tallied 6Brennan Newtown had 4 with Zaire Young scoring 3.  Colby Sapienza capped the Middie scoring with 3.

The Eagles were led by Jake Perkins with 9 while Dominic Burns had 8 and Brent Zatta finished with 6.  Burns, had 6 in the first before foul trouble hindered the rest of the contest.  Cory Kraft had 5 while Nick Fatini finished with 3.  AJ Ryant came back from injury to score 2 as did Billy Suilaman and Cameron Massimiani.

The game started out close with back to back buckets by Martin answered with a Jockel three ball from the Middie’s.  A few moments later, another three from Kellen Desimone tied it up at 6.  Later in the first, It remained tied at 8 for quite some time until a Perkins three ball busted it up for the Eagles.  The quarter remained tightly contested, ending at 14-14.

The first three minutes of the second quarter were slow as the first point wasn’t scored until a Jockel foul shot with 5:19 to play.  The first Eagle bucket didn’t come until 4:15 to play from Cory Kraft.  The Middies took a slim 22-21 lead into the break.

The third quarter was one of pain for North Olmsted as Midview pulled away once Dominic Martin picked up his fourth foul early on.  Once Martin was out, it was all Middies for the final 6 plus minutes as they won the quarter 24-44 to lead 46-25 after 3.  The first 5-0 run was stopped by AJ Ryant making his first start since returning from injury.  Their second run was massive and featured back to back three balls from Xavier Young and Xavier Padilla.

The fourth quarter went back and forth but the game had been long since decided as Midview came away with the 64-38 victory.
