It was Ian Kipp once again leading the way with his arms and feet as he racked up yards with both.  Kipp finished with 44 yards on the ground, with a touchdown on 4 carries.  He also threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 10 of 25 with a pick.

It was the Riley Coughlin show however, as the talented back continued his tear this season.  He went for 98 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries.  He was unstoppable once again and made several key blocks for some of the big Kipp runs as well.

Kipps touchdown passes went to John Sierputowski who had 1 catch for 14 yards.  The other touchdown pass went the way of Colin DePasquale for 7 yards.  He totaled 3 catches for 26 yards.  His top threat was Hutch Baird with 4 catches for 78 yards. Including a huge 40-yard bomb in the third quarter.

Brunswick QB Ethan Fritz did his best to be smart with the ball, and give the Bluedevils their first chance to score in this rivalry in several years, but try as he might, it didn’t work out tonight in the shutout.

Fritz was held in check as he went 4 of 11 for 60 yards and was sacked multiple times.  As I said on the broadcast however, I’m very impressed with Fritz.  He showed great poise tonight, was careful with the ball and will continue to get better.

Mentor scored on their opening drive as Kipp hit DePasquale from 7 out.  From there the Bluedevils defense stood tall for the rest of the quarter and even forced a redzone turnover.  It was all over from there however as the Mentor offense took things over in the second quarter.

The second quarter saw two touchdown runs by Riley Coughlin and one by Ian Kipp to bust the game wide open and give the Cardinals a 28-0 halftime lead.

A second half opening touchdown drive with Kipp finding Sierputowski put the game away for good and began the running clock.

The extremely talented kicker Andrew Smith booted one through from 37 yards out that may have been good from 57 at the start of the fourth quarter to finish the scoring at 38-0.  Keep your eyes on Andrew Smith as he appears to be headed for big things.

Brunswick falls to 2-2 and will look to bounce back next week as they visit their rival Strongsville as Mentor will host Elyria.

Player of the game – Mentor K Andrew Smith with a 37 yard Field Goal and 7 Touchbacks
