MEDINA, OH – The Medina Battling Bees hosted Warren G. Harding Raiders at Ken Dukes Stadium for Medina’s home opener. Medina pulled through with a win of 33-10 after what seemed like a tight game in the first half with an incredible team effort by both teams. But Medina had several players that took control of the game.
The first quarter started with a strong lead by Medina. The ball was in Medina’s hands for the majority of the quarter. They decided to take control of the game from the beginning. Brennen Schramm, a star senior wide receiver for Medina, scored the game’s first touchdown. Warren G. Harding had a rough start in the first quarter. After two deadball calls, they lost a total of ten yards. At the 37-yard line, Medina kicked a field goal to tack on three more points.
As for both teams, the 1st quarter was tamed. On both sides, no more than 20 yards were run for the first quarter. Ending with a score of 10-0, Medina was in the lead.
The Battling Bees began the 2nd quarter with the football. Medina quickly racked up two fumbles causing Warren to get a better grip on the game. Warren capitalized on a long field goal by junior kicker Jake Daughtery. The half concluded with a score of 10-3 Medina.
A significant energy shift occurred for Warren in the 3rd quarter. Warren’s defense held Medina to very little in the third quarter. Ryan Powell, a senior for Warren G. Harding, scored the first touchdown for Warren and Daughtery knotted it up at 10-10. A big sack for junior Nysier Coleman added to the energy Warren was creating over the game. The 3rd quarter was Warren’s quarter and it looked like the game would come down to the wire.
The final quarter of the game was significant for Medina’s victory. Warren had nine penalties by the end of the 4th quarter. Carlos Corchado, a senior for Medina, scored his first touchdown of the night from 1st and goal.
Schramm then scored another touchdown, adding to his successful night (24-10). After Warren got the ball back, Tallen Hulvey came away with a game sealing interception for Medina. Quickly after, Medina scored again courtesy of Austin Knowles (31-10).
The quarter’s final minutes were in Warren’s hands, and two bad snaps led to a safety for Medina. The game ended 33-10 with a home opener win for Medina.
Players of the Game-
Medina Wide Receiver Brennen Schramm
Warren G. Harding Running Back Ryan Powell
Congratulations on winning a game but Medina should be ashamed of the way their student fans behaved toward the Harding band – rude and classless.
Penalties for the Raiders!!!! Discipline football has to be the objective for this team combined with fundamentals!
