Medina Cruises Past Brunswick

Medina beat Brunswick 56-14 as Danny Stoddard passed for 271 yards and 4 touchdowns, going 16-19 and rushing for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Austin Knowles had 80 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Medina’s offense looked almost unstoppable as they drove the ball down the field with ease. Their spread offense was able to stretch out Brunswick’s defense and give them time to find open receivers. Their defense looked equally unstoppable outside of two drives that resulted in scores. They were able to get Brunswick off the field in a short amount of plays.

Brunswick had their work cut out for them tonight. They fumbled on a kick return early and was never able to regroup afterwards. Their offense wasn’t able to run the ball much, and getting down early forced them to have to pass the ball more than usual. Their defense didn’t get much pressure because of Medina’s spread offense forcing them to rush three to four guys. The lack of pressure allowed Medina to move the ball well on them all game.

On the opening drive, Medina’s spread offense limited Brunswick’s pass rush, only allowing them to rush three to four players. Medina was able to quickly drive down the field and scored on a one yard rushing touchdown from Danny Stoddard. On the kickoff. Brunswick fumbled the ball and gave it back to Medina. Danny Stoddard found Austin Knowles immediately for a 26 yard touchdown. Both teams stalled out after and the first quarter ended with Medina leading 13-0.

To start the second Stoddard found Knowles to get them inside of the redzone. Medina fumbled the ball, but was able to retain possession. Stoddard ran it in for a 5 yard touchdown. Brunswick drove the ball down the field methodically, and ended the drive with a 23 yard passing touchdown from Ethan Roksandich to Hayden Swarm. With Brunswick only rushing three to four players, Medina ran the ball up the field. Medina got into the red zone and scored on a 10 yard passing touchdown to Jack Wojciak.

Medina went back to their passing ways and was picking their way through Brunwick’s defense. Stoddard threw a 24 yard touchdown to Wojciak who caught the ball in double coverage. Stoddard found Camryn Hathaway for the two point conversion. Brunswick ran a trick play and Sean Barnett threw a 39 yard touchdown to Cooper Neel. Medina came back and drove down the field. Stoddard ended the drive throwing a 21 yard touchdown to Austin Knowles. Medina went into halftime up 42-14.

Opening the third quarter, Medina’s defense was able to hold Brunswick to a three and out. Medina then blocked a punt that put them on the 1 yard line. Cooper Josefczyk ran it in for a one yard touchdown. Brunswick backed up in their own territory, threw an interception and Tallen Hulvey returned it for a touchdown. Brunswick was driving down the field, but Medina’s defense stood their ground and forced a turnover on downs. Brunswick came back and picked the ball off on the one yard line. The third quarter ended with Medina up 56-14.

Both teams pulled their starters going into the fourth quarters and dialed their offenses back. Both teams took turns driving the ball down the field, but failed to put up any additional points. Medina won the game 56-14.
