The Medina Battling Bees welcome the Strongsville Mustangs as the Bees open Greater Cleveland Conference play. Medina comes in after a win last week while Strongsville is hoping to pull off the upset after a disappointing conference lost last week.
Medina opened the game with a trick play on offense, Brennan Schramm who usually plays WR launched the ball down field. This pass was picked off and returned to Medinas side of the field. Strongsville took advantage, Nolan Beard ran the ball for one yard and the touchdown for the early seven to nothing lead.
Medina got the ball back down seven as they tried to get back in the game. Medina wouldn’t do it on this possession, they would do the opposite. Another interception this time thrown by QB Danny Stoddard.
Strongsville capitalized again off another run from Beard. This extended the lead 14-0 In favor of the Mustangs.
Medina finally figured out the offense, a 11-yard rushing touchdown by QB Stoddard brought the Battling Bees within one score. The madness would only start to begin.
Strongsville continued the strong offense with another score from the arm of Beard to the hands of WR Case McLntyre as he kept both toes in to bring in the touchdown.
Medina down two scores again, finally got things clicking on both sides of the ball. Medina closed the gap in the second quarter with a pass from Stoddard to Jack Wojciak to make the score 21-14.
The story of the half was Stoddard connecting with Austin Knowles with just seconds left in the half to tie the ball game 21-21.
Medina came out of the half looking like a completely different team, a goal line passing touchdown and a pick six gave the Battling Bees a two-score lead as the fourth quarter was coming closer. Strongsville closed the gap again as they tried to crawl back into the game.
Will Dasher made one of the most insane catches of the year, he chased down a Beard throw in the endzone to bring the Mustangs back with in one score. This didn’t last long, the Battling Bees scored three straights to close out the game at home.
The final score of the game ended at 56-35 as the Bees secured the comeback at home to top off a classic game.
Nolan Beard ended the game with an impressive stat line going 16 for 29 with 280 yards 2 int 2 passing tds and 3 rushing tds.
Our back attack snacks player of the game is Medina’s QB Danny Stoddard who had an impressive stat line as well going 22 for 36 with 252 yards 2 ints 5 passing tds and 1 rushing tds with 98 rushing yards.
