Magnificat took the lead early, and Senior Guard Francie Spear set the tone just 40 seconds into the game with a sweet right-handed layup. Junior Abby Rosol had a nice first quarter with a beautiful left-handed layup at the 2:33 mark. Then a couple minutes later she had a nice right-handed layup.
The score at the end of the first was Mags 11, and Middies 3.
At the 4:35 mark left in the half, The Streaks were up 22-7, and it was starting to look like maybe Midview was done. About a minute later the Middies went on a 9 point run to end the quarter.
Senior leader Grace Milano led the way with a layup, a three, and a nice midrange base line jumper. Sophomore Olivia DiFranco chipped in 4 points to keep the Middies in the game. The score was Magnificat 22, and Midview 16 at the break.
La Spisa for the Blue Streaks used her quickness on both sides of the ball to make the Middie’s comeback difficult. La Spisa went to work with a brilliant inside game hitting layups from both sides of the hoop. She had an impressive 10 points in the fourth.
There was no quit in the Middies and Olivia DiFranco got hot and she tried to will Midview back into the game. The highlight was when she went up strong on a missed free throw and had a beautiful put back. DiFranco had an amazing fourth quarter, but it was a day late and a dollar short. She had a 13 point quarter and a solid 19 for the game.
The Middies got the score to 40 to 35 with 4:06 to go, but that would be as close as Midview would get. The Magnificat leading scorer was La Spisa with 19, and Rosol chipped in 15. A very good season ended for Midview, but Magnificat will survive and play Highland in the District Final.
