It was a very one-sided matchup as the Conneaut Spartans hosted the Madison Blue Streaks. Madison had their way all night, winning the contest 60-16.
Both teams started the game very slow and sloppy resulting in a lot of turnovers and fouls in just the first quarter. Conneaut Spartans senior guard Noah Hamm got the Spartans on the board by going 1/2 from the charity stripe. As for the Blue Streaks, they started the game off with a couple of layups and a converted and 1 by senior guard Mac Steel.
Conneaut Spartans sophomore guard Davonte Harris was contributing early converting on a layup, but Steel came right back to hit a 3-pointer to put the Blue Streaks up 10-3. The Spartans had a few nice defensive stops that led to junior center Maddox Knapp attempting a layup in which he was fouled. Knapp ended up converting both free throws to make the score 10-5 Blue Streaks. However, the Blue Streaks would go on a run seeing three different players get into the scoring column to put Madison up 16-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was underway with the Spartans obtaining the ball after the Blue Streaks won the tip. Senior forward Landon Tomco started things off strong for the Blue Streaks knocking down his second basket of the night. Madison was playing well defensively to start the quarter and saw Steel score yet another basket making the score 20-5 at the 5:30 mark in the second quarter.
Conneaut Spartans senior guard Jordan Kulko ended the Blue Streaks run with a 3-pointer. This ignited the Spartans offense and the next time down the court Harris knocked down a 3-pointer of his own making the score 20-11 Blue Streaks. Madison then responded and went on a massive 15-0 to end the second quarter seeing a handful of players getting in the scoring column including Steel who was having his way.
Madison showed no signs of slowing down to start the third quarter. The Spartans made a surprising move to start the third quarter by starting all freshmen and one sophomore. The Blue Streaks took advantage of this and went on a 13-0 run to start the quarter with Steel and Tomco leading the way. The original starters for the Spartans made their way back into the contest well into the third quarter. The quarter ended 54-11 with the Blue Streaks on top.
The fourth quarter went by quickly as there was a running clock. Harris started the quarter on fire scoring a quick 5 points for the Spartans. The fourth quarter, similar to the start of the game, was very slow and sloppy for both teams.
The player of the game for the Madison Blue Streaks was Mac Steel who scored 17 and the player of the game for the Conneaut Spartans was Davonte Harris who scored 10.
The Spartans fall to 1-12 and hope to get back into the win column again on Tuesday when they take on St. John. Whereas the Blue Streaks hope to continue their success against East on Tuesday.
