The Women’s Side of the MAC Tournament began today with 4 heated games. Here is a brief recap of each.
Game One
#1 Seed Ball St – 82 Leading scorer Alex Richard with 17
#8 Seed Western Michigan – 53 Leading Scorer Marina Asensio with 22
Summary – Western Michigan hung around and kept it close in the first. Halftime adjustments and an up tempo style of play for Ball State led to a massive scoring second half ( 53) as they won big to advance.
Game Two
No. 4 Kent State 68 Leading scorer Mya Babbit with 19
No. 5 Miami 61 Leading scorer Maya Chandler with 23
Summary – Kent State used a well balanced attack of 21 point from the foul line along with 21 points from beyond the arc to account for 42 of their 68 total points. Roughly, 62% of their scoring came from the lines today. Mya Babbit of Kent State and Maya Chandler of Miami both hit 4 from long range each.
Game Three
No. 2 Toledo 76 lead by Sami Minokowski with 18
No. 7 Central Michigan 58 lead by Jess Lawson with 16
Summary – It was a wild one with perhaps the craziest stat being CMU actually led for 20:37 of the 40 total minutes. CMU actaully led by 10 at one point and appeared to be in full control. Toledo trailed almost the entire first half and the early part of the second before bouncing back strong for the win.
Game Four
No. 3 Buffalo 65 led by Chellia Watson with 27
No. 6 Bowling Green 63 led by Erika Porter with 19
Summary – Paige Kohler actually committed to Buffalo at one point before changing her mind and going to BGSU instead. She nearly helped defeat the Bulls again, but alas, the Falcons fall to Buffalo as the day one goes in chalk status with all 4 higher seeds winning.
