Biggest takeaways from this week of MACtion
- Ohio is better than everyone thought
At the begging of the year, I was told that this team wasn’t any good and had no chance to win the MAC East. Kurtis Rourke proved he is the real deal in his junior year as he led his Bobcats to a win at Dix stadium against the Kent State Golden flashes in a statement win.
- Buffalo struggles In high scoring games
I’ve been saying all year that Buffalo is a good team but will struggle against Ohio who can air it out. That’s exactly what happened Tuesday night when Buffalo took on Ohio on the road. Buffalo does well when they can mix up their attack and ware out their opponent with a run game and an overwhelming defense. They couldn’t get this going after being down 17 points from the jump. They still have hopes but can’t let another game slip them like this again.
- Toledo is the best in the West with or without Dequan Finn
Finn may be the best overall player in the MAC, but his team was able to pull away with the win without him. Gleason wasn’t able to mimic the run game of Finn but he was able to dominate in the air as he defense kept him in the game. If this teams wants to win the MAC and take a bowl game Finn is there best option, this game did prove it is more than just Finn who is helping this team win.
- Akron is a O-line and a running back away
I know Akron is 1-8, yes, I am crazy. I really like this Akron team and I believe that with Irons at QB is their window to make a bowl game is closer than we think. Miami proved that their experience was overwhelming against the Zips as they made way less mistakes securing them the win. Irons will have another great WR core next year and Joe Mo will be able to do his magic and recruit some big boys up front to even out this team.
- The East has proved that it is equal to or better than the West
Me and many others thought the East was bad and would struggle against a better West division. That has not been the case this year. Teams like Miami and Kent State may be on the bottom of the East but have been strong in most games giving every team they play this year major fits. We could see and Eastern team win this year even with Toledo looking like the favorite out of the West.
