MAC ANNOUNCES 2019 FOOTBALL ACADEMIC ALL-MAC TEAM

Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2019 Football Academic All-MAC team as a total of 148 students were named to the 2019 Academic All-MAC team.   
  
Ball State (Chris Beech, Curtis Blackwell, Brock Burns, Bryce Cosby, Jimmy Daw, Tye Evans, Trevor Hohlt, Will Jones, Riley Miller, Demetrius Murray, Danny Pinter, Drew Plitt, Andrew Poenitsch, Zac Ricketts, Cody Rudy, Kyle Schrank, Kaleb Slaven, Anthony Todd, Jacob White and Jordan Williams) topped the 2019 Academic All-MAC squad with 20 selections.
 
Western Michigan (Brett Borske, Mark Brooks, Mike Caliendo, Stefan Claiborne, Cam Cooper, Dylan Deatherage, Alex Grace, Luke Juriga, Spencer Kanz, Will McCabe, Jake Moertl, Tanner Motz, Alex Mussat, Giovanni Ricci, Harrison Taylor, Justin Tranquill and Jon Wassink) was second with 17 selections.
  
Twelve students were named as four-time selections as John Lako (Akron), Danny Pinter (Ball State), Zac Ricketts (Ball State), Kyle Schrank (Ball State), Brody Hoying (Eastern Michigan), Breck Turner (Eastern Michigan), Matt Bahr (Kent State), Evan Crabtree (Miami), Jordan Steckler (Northern Illinois), Austin Clack (Ohio), Luke Juriga (Western Michigan) and Giovanni Ricci (Western Michigan) received the academic honor all four years.  
  
There were 28 students named as three-time selections: Chris Beech (Ball State), Riley Miller (Ball State), Andrew Poenitsch (Ball State), Caleb Bright (Bowling Green), Grant Loy (Bowling Green), Gabe Skrobot (Bowling Green), Zach Lefebvre (Buffalo), Matt Otwinowski (Buffalo), Kaden Keon (Central Michigan), Oakley Lavallii (Central Michigan), Derek Smith (Central Michigan), Clay Walderzak (Central Michigan), Jacob Donnellon (Eastern Michigan), Steven Nielsen (Eastern Michigan), John Henry Bronczek (Kent State), Joey Palumbo (Kent State), Dylan Conner (Ohio), Austin Conrad (Ohio), Eric Popp (Ohio), Cameron Bell (Toledo), Nate Childress (Toledo), Reggie Gilliam (Toledo), Shakif Seymour (Toledo), Mike Caliendo (Western Michigan), Stefan Claiborne (Western Michigan), Spencer Kanz (Western Michigan), Justin Tranquill (Western Michigan) and Jon Wassink (Western Michigan).
  
In addition, another 38 students were named as two-time Academic All-MAC selections.
  
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
