Lutheran West Routs Wickliffe 59-6

It’s the first Friday of fall here in northeast Ohio and there is a chill in the air at Alumni Stadium at Lutheran High School West.

The Longhorns entered this contest 4-1, looking to keep
their winning streak alive against the 1-4 Wickliffe Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils were marred by penalties and mistakes throughout the game which led to their huge loss. The Longhorns were firing on all cylinders on all sides of the ball and after the first score Lutheran West never looked back.

The Blue Devils won the toss and deferred to the second half. They tried to get Lutheran West off balance early with an Eliza Wills onside kick. That set up the Longhorns with great field position to start off the game as the ball was spotted on the Wickliffe 41 yard line. Three plays later, Jalany Theodore would find Derek Fairley in the back right corner of the endzone for
a 29 yard touchdown catch. The Longhorns went for 2 with a pitch to Lamar Scott for the successful conversion. Longhorns up 8-0. The drive took only 1:23 off the clock, and that
was only the start of the scoring extravaganza for Lutheran West.

Wickliffe went 3 and out on their first drive, making a major mistake on the punt. The punt was returned by Di’Marion Gill 40 yards for the touchdown. Another successful 2 point try put Lutheran West up by 16 in the first 2 and a half minutes of the game.

Wickliffe tried to keep the ball on the ground but
to no avail. Lutheran West seemingly had all the answers on defense. The Longhorns D “smashed” the running back core of the Blue Devils every chance they got. Lutheran West
continued it’s onslaught the very next drive with Jalany Theodore’s 25 yard pass to Jayden Theodore. The Longhorns were up 22-0. The 2 point conversion was good on a pass that was tipped by a Blue Devil Defender and caught by Kelly Conaway in the endzone.

Lutheran West went on to dominate from there for a 59-6 win.

Lutheran West goes to 5-1. Next week, they head to Garfield Heights to take on the Trinity Trojans.

The Blue Devils will look to redeem themselves as they head to Mantua to take on the Crestwood Red Devils.
