Lutheran West Dominates Hawken on Second Game of Back-to-Back

ROCKY RIVER, OH – The Lutheran West Longhorns rolled past the Hawken Hawks after a hard-fought come-from-behind victory last night over Maple Heights. Tonight, the Longhorns were led by Sophomore Kendyll Compton who dropped 13 points off the bench. Lutheran West had 5 players score in double figures in the contest.

Early in the first quarter, the Hawken Hawks were keeping the game close. They were going bucket for bucket with Lutheran West. About midway through the quarter, the Longhorns took off. Jayson Levis led the way for the Longhorns in the scoring department with 8 points. Multiple buckets came from tough shots in the paint. Kendyll Compton came off the bench to give the Longhorns a boost with two 3-balls. One of which beat the first quarter buzzer just inside the half court line. After the 1st, the Longhorns lead was 24-11.

The second quarter was completely dominated by the Longhorns. They did not let Hawken get any easy looks at the basket and were pests in the passing lanes causing multiple turnovers. Kendyll Compton kept the scoring going by dropping the first 5 points in the quarter for Lutheran West. Matt Meyer and Dylan Bartchak left their mark on the game offensively in the second. Meyer and Bartchak scored 8 points each for the Longhorns. With the dominant performance, Lutheran West outscored Hawken 21-4 in the quarter to extend their lead to 45-15 at the half.

The second half saw the same story as the first. The 3rd quarter saw the Longhorns knock down 4 triples in route to winning the quarter 18-10. Derek Fairley cashed in on 2 of the 4 three balls.

The Lutheran West defense was too much for the Hawken Hawks to handle. After holding the Hawks to just 15 first half points, the Longhorns allowed only 14 second-half points. On the second half of a back-to-back, in which the front half saw a comeback 60-59 victory Friday night, the Lutheran West Longhorns came into Saturday and handled their business.

With the win, the Longhorns advance to 10-0 on the season and will host Orange (3-7) on Wednesday, January 3rd at 6PM. For the Hawks, they fall to 4-2 on the season and will travel to West Geauga (6-3) on Thursday, January 4th at 6:45PM.
