Lorain County, Ohio — After what can only be described as a very productive stretch of international scouting (and several long flights later), Lorain County Leviathan FC has officially added two more pieces to its growing roster, announcing the signings of defenders Yoshichika “Yoshi” Kainuma of Japan and San Nam of South Korea as the club continues preparations for the upcoming season at Forefront Field.
Kainuma joins the Leviathan following development in Japan’s highly technical football academies, bringing composure, discipline, and tactical awareness to the back line. Known for his positioning and ability to read the game, Yoshi adds international experience and defensive stability while contributing to the club’s growing global identity.
Following the signing of Kainuma, the Leviathan continued their recruitment efforts in Asia, securing South Korean defender San Nam. Standing 6-foot-1, Nam provides physical presence, aerial strength, and defensive versatility. His ability to challenge attackers while maintaining calm possession under pressure adds important depth and competition within the defensive unit.
Together, Kainuma and Nam represent another step forward in building a strong and balanced roster while reinforcing the club’s commitment to bringing international talent to Lorain County.
Andrew McDonnell, club leadership for Lorain County Leviathan FC, emphasized the broader mission behind the signings.
“Our goal has always been bigger than just building a team,” said McDonnell. “We want kids and families here in Lorain County to experience the global game firsthand. Not every family can travel to see world soccer, but we can bring that experience here — players from different countries, different styles, and different cultures — all playing in our community. That exposure matters, and it shows young players what the game can become for them.”
Head Coach Blake New highlighted the competitive impact the additions bring to the squad.
“Depth is everything when you’re building a successful team,” said New. “Adding players like Yoshi and San increases competition across the roster and raises the level of every training session. We have a large group of young players developing within this club, and having experienced international defenders pushes everyone forward. The size, athleticism, and overall strength of this group give us flexibility and balance across the field.”
As the coaching staff now shifts its focus back closer to home, the Leviathan expect momentum to continue building. With recruitment efforts turning local and stateside, fans are encouraged to stay tuned this week as several well-known Ohio names may soon be joining the club.
The additions continue a period of strong momentum for Lorain County Leviathan FC as community support grows and season ticket sales expand ahead of the club’s inaugural campaign.
Fans will have their first opportunity to see the new signings in action this season at Forefront Field, as the Leviathan aim to deliver high-level soccer that remains accessible and community-focused throughout Lorain County.
