The Harvey Red Raiders pull away in the second half vs Lutheran West to get their fifth win by a score of 34-21. It was a back and forth first half with Harvey striking first with a touchdown. Lutheran West responded with a touchdown of their own but the extra point was blocked. Off of the kick return, Harvey took it 73 yards but was finally tackled inside the 10 yard line. They got the touchdown to pull ahead 14-6. West answered again with a rare passing touchdown. They attempted a two point conversion and succeed. However, in the second half it was all Harvey. They scored three touchdowns in the second half compared to the Longhorns one, including a 63 yard rushing touchdown.
Red Raider Markese Wise, a 5’8”, 137lb junior had a big day with 228 yards passing and four passing touchdowns. He threw 15 attempts and 10 of them were completions. He had a handful of receivers to throw to as five of them finished the game with over 15 yards catching. His main target was Shahn Alston with 5 receptions for 102 yards, a long of 59, and a touchdown. Chris Burt Jr. had one reception for 68 yards and a touchdown, Manny Toure had one reception for 18 yards and a touchdown, Trent Hull had two receptions for 24 yards one touchdown, and Armani Hall had one reception for 16 yards. Shahn Alston also led the Red Raiders in rushing with 97 yards, a long of 67, and a touchdown. Chris Burt Jr. chipped in 13 yards toward the team total. Harvey’s defense was led by Jeremiah Rowdy with six total tackles. Asygh Gaines, Ethen Eudell, Ish Jackson, and Nore’ Ay Jones all had more than four tackles as well.
The Longhorns were led by than non other than J’Leon Isom. Isom had 33 carries, 174 yards rushing, two rushing touchdowns, 27 receiving yards, a 19 yard kick return, and 72 yards from punt returns. De’Von McDougle also had 14 yards rushing. Quarterback Jace Palmer had a solid day with 19 attempts, 12 completions, 87 yards passing, 11 yards rushing, a passing touchdown. He also had several targets to choose from. Maurice Wynn, J’Leon Isom, De’Von McDougle, and Michael Verhun all had 15 yards or more on 3 or more attempts. Verhun was the only one to record a receiving touchdown. Without the presence of senior Cortlon Campbell (injury) the defense stepped up. Denver Scott and Winner Divison led the way with four tackles. Mykel Robinson Jr. Jack Kiousis, De’Von McDougle, Sam Justice, Maurice Wynn, and J’Leon Isom followed with two or more tackles each.
