Logan, Ohio- The Athens Bulldogs took on the Logan Chieftains on September 24th, 2021 at Logan’s home field.
The Bulldogs came to the Chieftain Stadium in hopes to get their second win of the season, meanwhile, Logan was determined to make this cold fall night their first win.
Logan started the game strong. They scored a touchdown with 6:12 seconds to go in the first quarter and a two-point conversion was good. Logan had the first score of the night, 8-0.
That didn’t slow down the Bulldogs whatsoever. Right after the Chieftains touchdown, Derrick Welsh had a remarkable touchdown run and the extra point was good. Making the score 8-7, Logan.
Logan’s, Jack Brown, scored a two-yard touchdown run and no extra points were delivered. Making the score 14-7, Logan.
The score at the end of the first quarter was 14-7, Logan.
There was a lot of back and forth between the two teams during the first quarter, but Logan’s defense stopped Athens from getting down the field.
The second quarter started slow. It wasn’t until 30 seconds left in the quarter that Athens was in a perfect position to score a touchdown.
At the end of the second quarter, Athens had a touchdown pass from Landon Wheatley to Welsh which was Welsh’s second touchdown of the night. That play put Athens one point behind Logan. Adding a good extra point, made the game tied, 14-14.
The first half ended 14-14.
It took the Bulldogs a minute to get some plays in motion, but once they did they caught back up to Logan.
With 4:18 to go in the 3rd quarter, Logan, kicked a field goal which broke the tie. 17-14, Logan.
The third quarter ended 17-14, Logan.
Logan had a touchdown with 6:56 to go in the fourth quarter and the kick was good. 24-14, Logan.
Athens had a couple of chances throughout the night to score, but Logan’s defense came out ready to get a win.
The final score was 24-14, Logan. The Athens Bulldogs will be back at their home stadium next week and they will be taking on the Meigs.
