A big first half by Saniyah Hall and poor second half shooting by the Magnificat Blue Streaks led to a 52-38 win tonight on the road for the Laurel Gators. Hall finished with a game high 23 points, with 14 of them coming in a great first half for the freshman sensation. Hall was aided by Mari Bickley who finished with 15.
Abigail Rosol did her best to try and will the Blue Streaks back in it in the second half with 11 of her 13 points coming in that 16-minute stretch, but the Blue Streaks as a team, just couldn’t string enough shots together to stay in it. Also scoring for the Blue Streaks was Sofia Wilson with 9, all coming from beyond the arc. Brynn Roggenburk and Gemma Wichman had 5 each. Katie Maryo had 3 while Reese Roggenburk and Julia Hall had 2 each.
The Blue Streaks ran out to a quick 5-2 lead to start the game before a Mari Bickley three ball tied it. It was a tight first quarter as the Gators held a slim 12-10 lead after one. The Gators had a hot start to the second quarter as they built the lead to 24-13 with a 12-3 run, thanks in part to Hall who had 6 during that stretch. They took a 28-16 lead into the break.
The third quarter is when the Gators pulled away for good as they closed the period up 38-23. Again, the Blue Streaks were working very hard but simply couldn’t make the open shots. It was just one of those nights for the Blue Streaks where the shots simply wouldn’t drop.
A good game, a great crowd and a fine display of Girls High School Basketball. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs!
Laurel the better team tonight with the best players on the floor. Magnificat is deep but did not unpack tonight. Abigail Rosol always steps up in tough situations. Sanyah Hall is the best I have seen in years.
Mags and Laurel will go far in the tournament.
