It’s not easy being an official in the OHSAA, no matter the sport, you have do it for the love of the game. No one is making serious money doing this and they know that despite how honest they are, non bias and fair, they are still going to take all kinds of heat from parents, and not nearly enough gratitude. Simply think back to the lack of officials we had the COVID year, and be grateful we have the ones we have today.
One of the best in the bunch is Larry Hufstetler. He always has a smile on his face no matter the situation. I’ve never seen him lose his cool with a coach, player or parents. He does a great job night in and night out, while making it fun for the student athletes and fans.
Except for Larry and a select few others, I seldom even notice the refs unless they are incredibly bad, with Larry I cannot help but notice him for all the good reasons. He is working hard, giving back to the game and making it enjoyable for everyone involved. I just wish he’d hit the gym a little bit more, then he’d really be a presence out there!
Congrats to Larry Hufstetler and thank you for everything you do!
