ROCKY RIVER, OH – For the second game in a row, the Lutheran West Lady Longhorns defeated their opponent with ease. Tonight, they welcome the Lady Hurricanes of Brooklyn. In their 59-28 victory, Ce Grant led the way offensively for the Longhorns with 14 points.
In the opening quarter, the 3-pointer was treating Lutheran West kindly. As a team, the Longhorns hit six triples in the quarter. Half of which came from Junior Guard Taylor Albrecht. Ava Adya and Ella McCarty had 2 and 1 respectively. Hounding defense was key for the Longhorns as well. They forced multiple turnovers in the backcourt that were leading to easy baskets.
A bright spot for the Hurricanes was Senior Guard Ashlyn Dyson. Dyson, coming off a performance in which she broke Brooklyn’s scoring record in a game with 45, had 12 points of her own in the opening quarter. At the end of one, Lutheran West held a 28-13 lead.
The 2nd quarter was all Lutheran West. As tough as their defense was in the 1st, it got even tougher. The Lady Longhorns held Brooklyn scoreless in the 2nd quarter as they outscored the Hurricanes 16-0 in the period. Sophomore Guard Maddie Kandrach got going in the frame as she dropped 8 of her 10 points in the quarter. Heading into the break, the Longhorns had a commanding 44-13 lead.
Not much changed in the 2nd half for either squad. Lutheran West remained dominant on both ends of the court. Senior Guard Ce Grant dropped 8 of the Longhorns’ 13 points in the 3rd quarter. This improved her scoring total to 14 in the game.
On Brooklyn’s side, Ashlyn Dyson continued a solid performance adding 8 more points to her total in the 4th quarter. The Senior Guard, who averages 21.1 points per game, finished with 20 points on the night. At the final buzzer, the Lady Longhorns came out on top with a 59-28 victory over the Lady Hurricanes.
The Longhorns improved to 9-8 on the year with their victory over Brooklyn. They will travel to Beachwood on Friday, February 2nd for a matchup with the Beachwood Bison (4-13) at 5:30PM.
