Lady Bulldogs Employ Stiff Defense In 50-24 Win Over Avon Lake

Avon Lake, OH – It was a total team effort by Olmsted Falls tonight as the Lady Bulldogs took it to the Avon Lake Shoregals in a 50-24 route.  The Bulldogs were paced by Lauren Galaska who scored in each quarter, finishing with 11 on the night.  Also in double digits was the Sophomore Sensation Paige Kohler with 16.  This was after scoring 17 Monday night against Avon.

The Bulldogs did what they are known for, stifling defense and passing the ball.  They showed this tonight as they held the high scoring Shoregal attack to just 24 points.  They also spread around the scoring as Mia Kalich had 7 while Sara Glover had 9. Kalich continues to be lights out on defense.

Also chipping in with 5 was Lauren Noernberg.  As for Noernberg goes, don’t let her Five foot Five inch size fool you, this young lady is tough and plays with the force of a Six foot Five inch forward.  Ashley Keener also had a bucket to cap off their scoring.

The Bulldogs used a stingy defense and balanced attack to build a 13-3 lead out of the gate.  Avon Lake didn’t score until 4 minutes into the game.  They built a 14-5 lead after the first quarter with 9 from Kohler.  The lead would have been even bigger but the Lady Bulldogs only went 1 for 8 from the foul line.  Also, a big three pointer from Hailey Hodge kept it a single digit lead.

The Shoregal scoring drought continued in the second quarter with only 1 point in the first five minutes, and only 6 in the quarter.  It was Emily Yarham with 4 in the quarter and Emma Knick with a bucket as well. Yarham had a good game with 10 on the night.  The Bulldogs just kept bringing it however and took a commanding 27 – 11 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs would put things away with a dominant third quarter building the lead to 40-17 with 2:10 to play in the quarter.  They would finish the frame with a 42-19 lead heading into the final 8 minutes.  In the fourth it was Sarah Glover and Lauren Galaska both burying threes’, along with the Keener bucket to end the night at 50-24.

One note for the Shoregals was an impressive fourth quarter off the bench for Courtney Borland with all 5 of the Avon Lake points.
