Kirtland shuts out Mogadore, 30-0, in Division VI, Region 21 final

.Macedonia, Ohio – The Kirtland Hornets shut out the Mogadore Wildcats, 30-0, Saturday evening at Boliantz Stadium.

Tommy Gogolin went in from eight yards out and converted the ensuing two point conversion to put the Hornets up 8-0 in the first.

After an Evan Koprowsky interception, Rocco Alfieri had a 26 yard rushing touchdown. This would increase the lead to 15-0 as the first quarter drew to a close.

Tommy Gogolin would rush for a 51-yard touchdown halfway through the second quarter to increase the lead to 22-0. He rushed for 193 yards on 16 carries, and also picked a pass off.

Kirtland would add one more touchdown as Jake Laverde ran for a one-yard touchdown, and Gogolin converted the two point try. Hornets would lead 30-0 going into the half.

The second half would have a running clock throughout. Ohio University commit Mason Williams had an interception for the Mogadore defense in the third quarter. The Wildcats would move down the field looking to put points on the board.

But the Kirtland defense turned them away, and ran the rest of the clock ran out. They held Mogadore to 96 offensive yards in total, and held Mason Williams to 35 yards on 12 carries. Junior Will Bates had a pair of sacks on defense.

Kirtland captured their sixth straight regional championship and 12th in 13 consecutive appearances. The Hornets advance to play Fort Frye next Saturday evening at South Range High School in a Division VI State Semifinal.
