The Toledo Rockets (1) and the Kent State Golden Flashes (2) fought for not just the MAC championship but for a well earned ticket to the big dance. Kent State won the match up when they last played earlier in the season.

Kent State won the MAC championship 93-78 and a ticket to the big dance for the first time in six years. This was off the back of a 26-point performance from Sincere Carry and a double-double by Malique Jacobs.

As expected, both teams came out of the gates on fire in what was a half full of back and forth fighting between both teams. Setric Millner got things going early while the rest of his team struggled to follow.

Sincere Carry, Malique Jacobs, and Miryne Thomas led the Kent State attack that worked its way from being six points down, to 11 up with 10 minutes to go in the first half. A Thomas break away dunk and three ball made it appear that the Flashes would continue to increase their lead.

Millner denied the Flashes this chance as he single handedly led the Rockets back from the grave to take the lead with 30 seconds left in the half. As time ran off the clock A last second attempt from Thomas missed the rim as Jacobs caught the ball and put it up for two as time expired. This effort by Jacobs gave the Flashes the lead and the momentum as they ran into the locker room.

Kent continued the momentum that Jacobs gave them as they didn’t increase their lead but fought off Toledo for majority of the second half. Millner Jr. got help in the second half from RayJ Dennis who was relatively quite in the first half of play.

Dennis and Millner Jr. fought with the Kent State starting five, they brought the Rockets within a single score multiple times but could not take the lead from the Flashes who could not slow down.

When the Rockets got on a run one of the many Flashes got hot to extend the lead and remove the Rockets from striking distance. With under three minutes to play the Golden Flashes sealed the game and ran away with the MAC championship.

Sincere Carry walked away with Tournament MVP honors as his team will represent the MAC conference in March Madness.

Tomorrow night we will find out what seed Kent State will be and where they will play. Look out for more coverage as the Kent State Golden Flashes look to continue their post season run.
