CLEVELAND, OH – The 8th seeded Kent State Golden Flashes continued their magical run tonight with a 73-60 win over the BGSU Falcons in the first game of tonight’s Men’s MAC Semi Finals. They were led by some red-hot shooting from deep as the connected on 12 of 17.

The Golden Flashes were led by Jalen Sullinger with 22 and Giovanni Santiago with 20.  The two combined to sink 11 of their teams 12 from deep.  The Falcons were paced by Marcus Hill with 22.

Marcus Hill scored the first 7 of the Falcons 11 points to spark them to a quick 11-6 lead, a little over 5 minutes into the game. A Sullinger three, sliced it back down to 11-9 as Kent State continued to hang around early.  Moments later, a Sullinger 3 made it 13-12 with 12;27 to play in the first half.  A possession later, it was a Cli’ron Hornbreak layup handing the Golden Flashes their first lead of the game at 14-13 with 11:42 remaining in the opening half.

Both teams went back and forth to keep it even for a bit until a late Golden Flash run extended their lead to 29-22.  The run saw some big buckets from Santiago as the Flashes continued to be hot from long distance. A Sullinger three ball right on que, made it 32-22 as the Falcons couldn’t cool them off. They were 7 of 9 from long range at this point.  The Flashes took a 34-28 into the break as despite his team losing, Marcus Hill of BGSU led all scorers with 13 as he played every minute of the first half.

Marcus Hill began the second half hot, and a three ball from Hill cut it to 45-42 as the Falcons got closer than they had been in quite some time.  A quick 4-0 Golden Flash run extended it right back up to 49-42 before anyone could blink.  Santiago caught the hot hand again, and at the 10:38 mark, another Santiago three ball pushed the Golden Flash lead out to 53-44.

Kent State finally got it to double digits when Sullinger buried one from the elbow to make it 60-49 with 5:09 to go.  They were 10 of 15 from beyond the arc at this point, with Santiago and Sullinger combining for 9 of them.  Santiago put it away for good with another triple to make it 70-57 with 1:25 to play.
