Kenston holds off Perry in defensive showdown, 18-13, improves to 2-0.

Bainbridge, Ohio – The Kenston defense stepped up in a big way on Friday night.

Thanks to JP Germano’s interception in the fourth quarter, the Bombers emerged victorious, 18-13, over visiting Perry in non-conference play Friday night.

Nikko Georgiou rushed for a touchdown on the Bombers’ opening drive. The point-after was blocked, leaving Kenston with a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Bomber defense forced their first turnover of the game on the next possession, when defensive end Aidan Vanderbilt forced a fumble, which was recovered by Jack Novak.

Sophomore running back Sean Patrick punched it in from a yard out to increase the lead to 12-0. He had 16 carries for 76 yards to go with the score, plus an impressive hit on special teams.

The Pirates responded late in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Brayden Richards found junior Charlie Rockwell for a five-yard touchdown reception, cutting the Pirate deficit to 12-7.

In the third quarter, the Pirates marched down the field to take the lead, thanks to a one-yard touchdown run by Brayden Richards.

However, the ensuing two-point try was broken up at the last minute, keeping the score 13-12 in favor of Perry. Richards had 21 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown run.

Kenston responded with a drive of their own.

They took back the lead when Nikko Georgiou found Tymir Cardona on a 33-yard touchdown reception.  Georgiou went 13 of 19 passing for 194 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also had 12 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.

The Pirates came up with a huge goal-line in the fourth quarter, keeping Kenston off the board.

On the first play of the ensuing drive, Brayden Richards scampered for 41 yards to get the Pirates out of the shadow of their own end zone. Thanks to a couple more key runs, including a Richards scamper on fourth down, the Pirates found themselves in Bomber territory looking to take the lead.

They got down to the 27-yard line. However, JP Germano picked off a Richards with 1:20 left to seal the game for the Bombers.

Cardona had four catches for 30 yards, including what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown reception. The future is very bright for this young man!

Kenston (2-0) travels to Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin for a non-conference matchup next Friday night.

Perry (1-1) hosts Madison for a non-conference matchup next Friday night.
