Is Dan Gilbert’s Alleged Promise to LeBron James About to Come True?

This rumor is brought to you by – https://keeonsports.com/sponsors/

“Allright then folks, you want to get nuts?  Let’s get nuts!” – George Costanza

Since returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014, rumors have run rampant about an alleged, “promise” that Dan Gilbert made to LeBron James that convinced him to return.  Now, for anyone with common sense, that promise was more than likely trading the first pick away for Kevin Love as well as allowing him to decide how long new Head Coach David Blatt could stick around before they fired him for LeBron’s personal choice Ty Lue?  Who truly knows what actually went down in that meeting except Dan Gilbert and LeBron James, but those two things make the most sense.

Now, with that being said, it wouldn’t be fun to just accept that silly purely logical reason and move on, oh no!  The conspiracy theorist in all of us has long had the following three ideas in our head of what was actually said that convinced him to return.  For years, these theories seemed crazy, but with LeBron sitting in the front row tonight during the Cavaliers loss to the Boston Celtics, and free agency 2024 looming, it appears that we may not be far off.  Let’s take a stab at some crazy notions, that now appear to be coming true,,,, ( MAYBE !)

Crazy Notion One – Dan Gilbert sells LeBron the team after LeBron retires as a Cleveland Cavalier.  It doesn’t seem as crazy any more with Gilberts ongoing health issues.  Clearly, no one could have predicted such a thing to happen to Gilbert, but if it was ever going to happen that way, the door is now wide open.  Michael Jordan bought into the Washinton Wizards before playing for them, and we know LBJ loves to copy anything Jordan did.

Crazy Notion Two – The Cavaliers will draft his son Bronny as he was declared eligible for the NBA draft today, as he passed his physical.  He was a disaster in his freshman and only year at USC.  Bronny had horrendous numbers in his one and only season there, averaging less than 5 points a game, and averaging less then 3 rebounds a game in 21 minutes per game.  If his dad wasn’t “King James”, no one would have him on a single draft board.  Yet, here we are as the Cavaliers have made it clear they don’t plan on building through the draft and may go “All In” in teaming up Donovan Mitchell with LeBron James for at least one year.

Crazy Notion Three – After drafting Bronny, LeBron will opt out of his contract with the LA Lakers and return to Cleveland.  He will then take over as coach, not only becoming the first player coach of the modern era, but also becoming the first player in NBA History to not only play with his son but also coach him at the same time.

So again, these notions seem crazy, but when you step away and look at everything from a distance, removing emotion, is it really all that crazy?

THE REAL QUESTION IS, IF IT DOES HAPPEN, DO I HAVE TO WRITE A SEQUEL?
