***UPDATED The city is said to be fighting this as they are yet to approve anything. Last evening Sheetz representatives failed to show up at the zoning meeting. This could delay everything and stop the rumored sale. A letter from Chris Glassburn, City Council Ward 2 Patrick Kelly, Council At-Large Angela Williamson, Council At-Large can be found on page 2″
From Rock “n” Bowl, Leagues, Birthday parties and Midnight fun, to shooting pool and having some of the best burgers in town, Buckeye Lanes provided it all over their existence. Now, sadly, the sound of bowling balls rolling towards another strike and children’s laughter may come to an end.
Sources have confirmed that this North Olmsted landmark may be closing for good on April 30th. No more hand towels, cool looking gloves and the endless debates of “is league bowling really a sport?” They are attempting to sell the property to Sheetz who will soon tear it down, and build a Gas Station / Eatery, along with a Car Wash.
We would like to send Buckeye Lanes a thank you card with all of your signatures on it! We can do this by having each one of you sign the thank you card via the comment section below. Feel free to share your favorite memory as well!

So sad that this is closing I spent so many days and nights here. Will truly miss buckeye lanes.
Great, North Olmsted needs another Gas Station and Car wash like Washington needs more politicians
Yeah so sad.. But think about it people that was when we were growing up how many of y’all can say you still go there to this day not very many I live right down the street from the bowling alley it’s never as busy as it used to be they have to shut down due to finances I can relate just saying
A truly sad moment for sure. A site for the PBA Tour for countless years. Home for theGreater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League. A great place to bowl tournaments and practice. A fantastic pro shop. bowled in leagues fir many years there. Bowled my highest series of 868(300-268-300). Truly a sad moment indeed.
So many memories for my entire family are tied to Buckeye Lanes. Thank you for that. We will be sure to come up one more time.
Vince, you really shouldn’t have posted this without actual confirmation. The city is against this, and there is nothing set in stone. All hear say
Many games bowled there by our family from birthday parties, cub scout outings and eventually a varsity bowler for the Westlake Demons. Thank you for great memories!
I remember when Buckeye Lanes opened. I bowled my first game there. It was a whopping score of 9. We would walk up to there on Saturday mornings. Thank you for the great memories of Buckeye Lanes.
So very sad to read this news. Many wonderful memories there!
The last great thing in North Olmsted, Me and my friends at 13 or 14 years old would go in and buy cigarettes from the vending machine loved to play the video games there. Shot pool there and went to the Rock-n-bowl . Watched the pro’s on ABC when they came into town.
It really sucks to see this landmark being torn down and a Sheetz in its place what bullshit
This breaks my heart. 💔 I used to watch the Pro’s there during the 80’s. I’ve been on many ladies leagues at Buckeye. It’s sad that children will never know the fun of bowling or shooting pool.
The LAST thing the city needs is another car wash and gas station! DeWine claims another business due to ‘Covid restrictions’.
Has nothing to do with Covid. Its because the secret partner in Florida wants out and the repairs to keep the lanes up to standard cost too much for the owners to dish out. Plus the roof has been leaking for over a decade and one main wall is collapsing.
I used to go there all the time with me and Phil Schwartz Scott Booker Teddy kocab we would hang out there and just have fun we will go in the bathroom
So sad! I remember birthday parties and going bowling after school dances!
Very sad day. Bowled in many leagues and my first PBA Regional Tounament at Buckeye. I remember being there in 1983 when Hall of Famer Norm Duke won his first PBA title. Lot’s of great memories. Hopefully the city will stop this Travisty and find an owner that wants to bring it back to it’s glory. Can only hope.
Enjoyed the league bowling and the Fairview Alum Christmas get togethers. So many fond memories over the years! Very sad to see a landmark leaving.
I am so sad and heartbroken that Buckeye lanes will be shutting down. This place holds a lot of my favorite memories. I’ve met many of my friends here, I bowled on my high school team here, and even met my husband here. This bowling alley holds a special place in my heart. Putting a gas station here is beyond the dumbest thing anyone could do.. being surrounded by other gas stations and tearing away a place of fun. Buckeye lanes will truly be missed 💔
So sad to see this place go, my family (the tjotjos’) GREW up here thru many generations. The energy in the air was just different. Everyone was so nice all the time truly a family bond. I would really hate to see a gas station over ride such a staple to not only the city but many peoples hearts. At some point we must move on and grow I just can’t believe its here now. I’m only 24 and out of all the places I’d choose to go it would be here 12 times out of 10. Hope to see an auction maybe. Would love some pieces from here. I know my dad would love it.
Sad to see it go I really enjoyed bowling here!
Such sad news of this amazing place closing! So many great memories from many years of awesome times with family and friends! Wish someone would buy it to save the actually bowling alley!
Thank you for all the find memories! Best wishes! Buckeye Lanes will truly be missed!
Strange. I haven’t bowled in over a decade, or lived in the area in 3 decades, but Buckeye Lanes played a large part in my childhood, and this almost seems more sad than seeing my old high school demoed. I took lessons there and met some great friends. I bowled with the pros in Pro-Am tournaments when the tour came to town, learning lessons on winning with humbleness and why sometimes the biggest achievement is just to show up and try. I asked for and spent countless quarters playing Galaga, Tempest and pinball while I waited for my parents to get done with their league on Sunday nights, learning the value of budgeting in the process (all you get is $1.00, make it last!). I probably bowled my first 200 games and 600 series there, and eventually joined the same league as my parents. My brother, sister, and their kids have too in the years since I left, and I always know where to find them on a Sunday if I am in town. If you could bottle sounds and smells, I could instantly pick the place out blindfolded in just a few seconds. It was just there, like a monument in my life. But times change, and nostalgia can’t pay the bills, so I raise a glass of whiskey in a toast, with a strange, but genuine fondness for a place that helped shape the person I am today.
So sad to see it close. Loved bowling there.
