***UPDATED The city is said to be fighting this as they are yet to approve anything. Last evening Sheetz representatives failed to show up at the zoning meeting. This could delay everything and stop the rumored sale. A letter from Chris Glassburn, City Council Ward 2 Patrick Kelly, Council At-Large Angela Williamson, Council At-Large can be found on page 2″
From Rock “n” Bowl, Leagues, Birthday parties and Midnight fun, to shooting pool and having some of the best burgers in town, Buckeye Lanes provided it all over their existence. Now, sadly, the sound of bowling balls rolling towards another strike and children’s laughter may come to an end.
Sources have confirmed that this North Olmsted landmark may be closing for good on April 30th. No more hand towels, cool looking gloves and the endless debates of “is league bowling really a sport?” They are attempting to sell the property to Sheetz who will soon tear it down, and build a Gas Station / Eatery, along with a Car Wash.
We would like to send Buckeye Lanes a thank you card with all of your signatures on it! We can do this by having each one of you sign the thank you card via the comment section below. Feel free to share your favorite memory as well!
Turn to page two for more.
Super sad that this is closing . I had a lot of childhood in that building
Really sad to see it close. I have bowled here and so have my kids. Lots of fun times there with friends and family.
Spent alot of time there in my teens …. probably kept me out of trouble (haha). Thank you Buckeye Lanes for the memories.
Just what North Olmsted needs is another gas station. North Olmsted, once an awesome city, now heading towards Ghetto Status.
And Sheets is going to kill the remaining mop and pop gas stations. 🤦♂️ Nice work N.O planning director take the low road because it’s easy
Pretty stupid comment.
I’m sorry, what? “Ghetto status”? You must not live here or know that we are far from “ghetto”. Just saying that is foul in every sense. Get socially aware will you?
Rolled my first and only 300 there, what a terrible loss to the community
This is super sad. This place is a part of my childhood & my family. I come from a family that bowled often. I was a kid & spent most of my time playing the arcade games or chit chatting with random people (things were better years ago). This is where my love for Hydro Thunder Hurricane came to flourish. I also came to bowl here as a teenager. Great memories, fond memories. Thank you for everything! 💞
Had some great time here it sad to see them go
Bowled there for years and even kept score for the pros ! Such great memories
I truly wish you were not closing. I grew up going there. My kids love bowling there. This city will Not be the same without you. My heart is breaking. I wish you all the best of luck in the future.
Nope another gas and wash
Is there any chance it could be sold and stay a bowling?
Holy Sheet that’s a sheety deal now the only thing you can do in North Olmsted let’s get tattoos and smoke hookah
My dad bowled there for years . So sad to hear this . My dad would be so upset hearing this . He passed a few years ago and loved like a second home . It was such a big part of our family .
I remember going with my sisters as a young girl watching the ladies in there bowling league. Thanks for the memories.
I have bowled many years here. Alot of Pro Ams, great memories this is not right to tear this awesome structure down. I will miss this place & all the Great Employees that work there. Thank you Mike, Matt, Terri, Angie, Heidi. You guys are awesome, I wish you all the best in your next endeavor. Live you guys xxoo
Add it to the list of lost memories in this city. From the middle school to the high school and the rec center. Great northern mall is next on the list. Time to start new anywhere else.
Spent many Saturday & Sunday afternoon’s bowling there & I also learned how to bowl at Buckeye Lanes. It’s upsetting & sad that they are closing. It is indeed a historical landmark in the city where I have so many wonderful memories.
Grandma’s going to turn in her grave when she hears this! That’s all we need is another gas station and car wash!
Bowled there for many a year. Our church bowling league went there after Olympic Lanes closed.
I remember the pros bowling there. So sad
Sheetz will be nothing more than a late night hangout for young punks and drunks after bars close. It will be a traffic nightmare over there and the noise will be ridiculous.
I don’t know about you Henry but I don’t think a gas station is gonna produce deafening noise.
Can they find another buyer interested in keeping the bowling alley open?
It’s sad that all the things we did in our younger is going by the wayside! So much for change & progress
Bowled my first professional tournament there. Took my daughter there several times too. Sad to see it go…..
BUCKEYE LANES SERVED WELL TO MANY PEOPLE FOR A LONG TIME THANK YOU! I enjoyed myself there BEST WISHES ALWAYS!
Roses are red, violets are blue
On 7 & 8 I rolled an 862
Norm Duke won his 1st title here at age 18.
Sad 😞 My husband and sons have been on league’s there when they where small children and adults. Chuck ,Chad , Charlie Gray. AKA
“Two of a kind” and “Breaking Bad”
Won the 1995 Cleveland Masters tournament there…bowled many leagues and tourneys at Buckeye Lanes. Will miss it tremendously. My sport is all but gone…but the memories of the relationships Ive made from it I’ll never regret.
We don’t need another Gas station or car wash!!!
Didn’t you make the 7-10 there @ the pro-am when Mark Roth was bowling 1 of last there Frankie? I remember that night, you were so proud & so was Mark!
Gonna miss the bowling alley. Loved being up there when I was younger
Why send the owners a thank you card for selling it and having it torn down? Better to go up and thank the employees for their loyalty.
I started going there to watch my dad bowl when I was 10. Started bowling in an adult league when I was 16 and been bowling there since then. Worked there for a few seasons. Have had the pleasure of meeting / working with great people and making lots of friends ever since.
When my husband and I bought our first house in north olmsted, he quickly joined a men’s league at Buckeye on Thursday evenings. This is where he made many friends including the father of our babysitter. She would babysit every Sunday so we could bowl in a couples league on Sunday night. After the kids were too old for babysitting she still remaines part of our family to this day. My husband also bowled a 300 game at Buckeye lanes. This ring is now cherished by his children, after he passed away in October. Buckeye Lanes, you may not realize it, but you have touched so many lives in a very positive way! Thank you!
This was never confirmed to the employees. They have been dealing with rumors for months now.
It has been confirmed now.
Gonna miss the lanes. Such soothing noises of pins exploding and rolling balls down the lanes. I have a locker there for the last 20 years. Really going to miss that place. Renouncing my sheetz membership. No body wants sheety food anyways.
As a north Olmsted citizen for 20+ years, I’m very sad to say goodbye. I’ve celebrated birthdays (my own) as well as my children’s. I’ve watched leagues play and I’ve played pool here countless times with my son. It just won’t be the same anywhere else 🙁 thanks for all the memories!
Just what we need, another Sheetz gas station. What a waste. Well, not that it will matter to them, but, I won’t be filling up there. So sad to see this alley go! Spent a lot of time there as a teen.
Sorry to hear of such sad news. We have spent many of years at Buckeye Lanes. My daughter spent all 4 of her high school years on the NOHS bowling team that utilized Buckeye to both practice and play in championship tournaments. Buckeye Lanes you will be sadly missed by all that utilized your facility for the sport of bowling and the fun that it brought to everyone over the years.
Place went to the dumps when they put the synthetic lanes in. Used to be one hell of a bowling alley, now it’ll be just another waste of land.
You must not of read the whole thing. There putting a Sheet gas station and car wash there
I bowled there in several leagues for many years and remember my first 600 series! I also remember scoring for the Pro Bowlers for many years before the computers took over the scoring. I’m sad to hear this news. 😢
My Grandfather had a team there, The Cleveland Wood Turners. It was televised in the early 60’s. I have been trying to find info on it. I just looked on your site a week ago! So far haven’t found anything. So sad to hear your Closing!
